G51VX Replacement Keyboard

Hey guys, I have a G51VX-RX05 that I bought off a friend a in August. In september, the keys would skip a little, and apparently this had happened to my friend about a year before. He put a piece of paper over the ribbon by the connector. I tried to fix the issue by cleaning the ribbon's connector, which worked for a few days, then it started to act up again. After two more fixes, and playing with the ribbon for over an hour, many of my keys (G, E, several function and arrow) don't work. I am unable to fix them. I took another look today, and of course managed to break the tail of the mobo connector (the white piece), although it *seems* to still work. The model on the kb is 04GNV33KUS00-3, although on ebay I can only find 04GNV33KUS04-3. Can I use the other model in this machine? Where else can I get a replacement? The other keyboard is listed as for the K series.

Found a used one, though that's really the only one of it's kind that is backlit on ebay.

That one is a 01-3, the one in my machine is an 00-3, I have no idea what the difference is. There's also this

- which looks exactly the same as my G51vx keyboard, but that's an 04-3. I emailed Asus support and only received one useless response.

From what i can tell they're all the same up to the g53. My keyboard looks exactly the same as the g51. I would think there's a slight difference but they should all connect and work the same.

 

What do you mean they're all the same up to the g53? It just really sucks to be using my other comp instead of my g51 Except I don't want to buy the wrong keyboard and potentially kill the machine...

 

The only thing I've noticed between some KB's is the symbols on some of the keys, and that's all that I can see from the pictures. I'm even tempted to buy a non-backlit KB because I'm sure those will work

 

G51/G60Jx/G73 keyboards are the same, the only difference is the G73 keyboard's finish. It's silvery and smooth as opposed to matte black.

If you still have the old keyboard, try making a straight, clean cut of a mm or so off of the part of the very end of the ribbon with the exposed contacts.

 

Killed the ribbon...on ebay I see tons of keyboards for other models which look pretty much the same

That keyboard is not compatible, it has a different connector.

 

Hmmm...just trying not to spend a ton on a new KB. It's just that finding the correct fitting model is a pain

 

The direct replacement is 04GNV33KUS01-3, you can confirm that by looking at the label on the broken keyboard.

 

mine is a 04GNV33KUS00-3

 

They should be identical, the only difference is with the US03 model which has the grey/silver smooth keycaps and bezel for the G73. All 3 are interchangeable, direct replacements for your keyboard.
