So I can't take advantage of the Altec Lansing speakers :/
For some reason, my G51 thinks that headphones are always plugged in; in the Realtek sound manager the "headphone" jack is colored in, meaning that the laptop is detecting that it's on, and I can't turn it off. The BIOS "explosion" sound plays just fine, but I don't hear anything through the speakers after that.
Any ideas? I'd really hate to have to send this in to Asus. I tried reinstalling sound drivers and using the Windows 7 generic drivers, none of which have worked.

Sorry about this, guys.
The same sound fix for this problem from the G50 works. I didn't realize it because the Digital Out was set as my default device rather than my speakers.
So, if you run in to this problem:
Regedit>find>forcedisablejd>set value to FF
Now what this does it set it so that both your headphones and speakers will play at the same time; I was desperate, so this fix is acceptable.
However, if there are easier method to fix this, let me know. -

Heh looks like there is no reason to remove this fix from the G50 fixes tab of my app now that I am adding the G51 to the list lol. Sucks its pretty much an RMA deal the switch inside the headphone jack is not working right.

Yeah, I kinda figured that. I was just really hoping I'd get lucky and there would be an easier fix.
Eh, it's fine by me. I just have to change the registry and restart if I decide to not use the speakers for some reason.
I just hope they still turn off when I plug in an HDMI cable. -

One of the guys here made a batch script for starting and stopping an app related to the sound, only think it works on XP. Im working (right now in fact) on an app for replacing direct console for overclocking and led functions, you G51 guys dont even have direct consoles overclocking so its a bonus!
Each model gets its own fixes tab for programatic fixes. I was thinking of just leaving the G51 on the same tab as the G50 and it looks like I am correct in that assumtion. It will provide the ability to toggle the sound via hot key or tray icon. -
Ya i have the same problem, I also use Regedit to force to sound out of the speakers, but then it disables the mic, and all the 3.5mm plugs, its really annoying,
Like Clutch said Stouf made a script here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=375227&page=2
It works in XP , its a little toggel app in the task tray to get it to work, but no luck getting it to work in Visa HP 64 bit yet -
wow seriously? I just got this exact problem on my G50VT, and my uncle bought a G51J for christmass and it had the same problem aswel we sent that one in for an RMA, wich i would have found this sooner

G51VX seems to think headphones are always plugged in.
