Hey guys I am new here and I have had a G51j with the 260m for awhile. So I was wondering what I can do to upgrade and tweak it and any good recommendations. I just got it back from ASUS because the MOBO died so i am excited to get started on it again.

I do have the new bios so no BSOD and I did drill/cut the hell out of the bottom panel. I was sweating the RMA processes but they never said anything about the 300 holes :)

    So basicly:
What can I upgrade when it comes to GPU
    anything else to mod?
    Tweaks? drivers or anything important
I have heard people doing "copper mods", which is something I could always do.

In regards to the CPU I think you have the same options as we do in our G73JH because you have the PM55 720qm/740qm/820qm/840qm. It will depend if your cooling can handle the 55 Watt TDP of the 920xm/940xm however.

In regards to the GPU I think most people have upgraded to the 280M/285M however from what I have read most who have the 280M just flash the Vbios with the clocks for the 285M should it be able to handle them. The 460M etc is not an option as it wont fit.

1.When it comes to GPU there's pretty much nothing you could do. At the most you could overclock it.

2.You could install a better cpu like 920xm if you want to.

3.As for drivers install 259.47 from nvidia, it perform much better than the newer ones. Another thing you can do is use throttlestop, it will increase your perform because g51j throttles way too much while playing games.

But keep keep in mind installing a better cpu , using throttlestop or overclocking you gpu will increase you temps quite a bit.

already use the F1C....should install throttle stop instead of the F1C since that is so old lol. Also is the 280 worth it? how much does it cost and where can I get one? Also i am content with the CPU...more so the gpu. Also is there a decent AMD option? I heard there was a good amd gpu that was cheap and could overclock like a banshee.

Yea its better if you use throttlestop. Just let you know you cant install a better gpu (gtx 280m or gtx 285m) simply because it wont fit. Neither will an amd work. As i told you only option is overclocking that's it. If you overclock your card properly, you can easily get it to perform better than a 280m. All you gotta do is watchout for your temps.

i wish i could get 600 and 1500 lol...though you should keep your overclocks balanced. I heard you dont want to deviate from the nvidia clock ratio.

question my gpu has been a hit or miss with stablity with 1575 1435 and 1580 1450 clocks. Would uping the voltage help? Is it a voltage issue or a gpu clock limit issue

use 259.47 stock drivers or get like tweak force?

computer freezes due to the overclock in some games...when lowering thee clock it doesn't freeze anymore. So leads me to believe either clocks are too high or too high for voltage. 3dmark and vantage fail quiet often with those clocks

less demanding games dont freeze with those higher clocks

Dont use nvidia's. It will keep causing you problems. I had the same problem too. Use msi afterburner or evga precision. you wont have that problem anymore.

still crashes....either freezes or clocks crash and it runs at idle clocks when i start benchmark test.

only can reach 580 1450 960 with out crashing and its debatable on some games. Furmark clocks last just fine but game and benchmark tests it crashes... :/
