That was a common error on the G51J/Jx. On the J it was mostly fixed after BIOS 208, I'm not sure about the Jx. What BIOS are you on?

CPU-Z should tell you your bios revision. Also winflash or probably other system info utilities.

I'm on 208. Checked using Everest.
So is this something to be concerned about?

Yes if it continues, especially if there are a lot of those warnings, I would consider a fresh install or if that doesn't work, sending it in for RMA before your warranty expires. You shouldn't see these errors frequently - every once in a while maybe but not a bunch of them repeated.

I had about 4 of them today =/.
Any idea what's causing it? The GPU?
Some googling said that it might be the intel chipset, but I'm up to date with those drivers.

I'm not exactly sure, I asked but it was never answered by asus what they changed in that BIOS to fix it. My guess was they changed something to do with the power management or voltage on the pcie lanes, since it seemed to be related to ACPI but only on windows. If doing an sfc /scannow or a reinstall doesn't clear up the errors, it could be down to some sort of hardware problem. I don't really have a good answer sorry.

Thanks. I did the scannow thing and I'll have to wait and see if that fixes it, if not I'll reinstall. But I haven't recieved a single BSOD/crash since I had this laptop. These errors may have started in January or earlier. Does that mean anything?

    Edit:

I found the first error. Oddly enough it started the day i did a reinstall of windows. Dec 26th. On top of that i have thousands. Literally thousands of disk errors from dec 26th and some more for a few days after. The disk errors stopped a while back and haven't recieved one since. HD tune pro shows my disk is OK. Could this be a windows thing?

You'd need to figure out if you changed any drivers or anything since the errors showed up. Again I don't really know the cause of these errors, especially since it's been a long time since I had my G51 and I never really ran windows on it very much. :(

Yeah I'm trying to figure that out. It seems that I may have done a fresh install of windows on Dec 14th. That's when the earliest logs start for other things. On the 26th I received THOUSANDS of disk errors. Like literally a thousand within a second. Then after that, this started. Ughhh.

Yup, I had to RMA to get rid of that error on my g73. Messes up your disk activity by writing to disk constantly.

Mine only occurred when I had the video drivers installed. Using non-accelerated drivers meant no error.

what does it mean to use non-accelerated drivers?
does it mean that I have to uninstal nvidia drivers completelly to avoid the error?
I have noticed that when I am swaping the drivers from newer to older versions the error is decreasing and increasing, but still cant find proper solution for that, I don have so many of tham as you... maybe 10 per day.

That would mean the default VGA drivers that ship with windows.

it will decrease on a scale of a million. VGA driver's are literally useless for anything other than displaying your screen. I suggest you RMA or reinstall windows. Certainly prefer the reinstallation option.

I have a G73JH and ever since day one I have also been getting the WHEA logger event 17 errors. I had taken my notebook to bestbuy where I bought it from and they had no idea how to fix this problem outside of sending it in for repair and leaving me without a PC for a month lol. so after poking around I figured out a easy work around to stop this error from occurring until the next reboot. 1. open Device Manager 2. Left click on the white arrow next to System Devices 3. Right click on Intel(R) processor PCI Express Root Port 1 - D138 and Left click on Update Driver Software... 4. Left click on Browse my computer for driver software 5. Left click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer 6. Don't Select any of the choices in the menu just Left click on the Next Button. The screen will flash for a second and windows should update your driver software. now if you check your event log the errors will stop and services will start like normal. this will last until your next reboot or shutdown then you will have to do these steps again, I personally hibernate my machine instead of shutting it down. Obviously this is not a fix and it might not work on your model but its a easy band-aid for the g73jh, hopefully it works for you as well.

    Thanks for all answers,
I went with device manager and updated d138 device searching through the internet and it found a new driver from 2009, while I had instaled previously from 2006, since this instalation none of whea logger are back, will se for how long.

By the way it is absolutely right that Asus instal new systems so fast to kick the machines out to customers without rebooting them. The only reboots are when the laptop force technicians to do so and there it ends with more and more errors. So work on with this Asus.

Not so long ago I performed F9 recovery, as I was puting the new BIOS, and first what showed up in event viewer was whea logger 17... I think it would be beter to instal the new system from from DVD and then go along with the drivers, but I've no 64bits windows, maybe I download cracked one to see if Iam right. RMA is out of option as I opened the cover to put a better cooling paste due to laptop shutdowns, which worked well. No shutdowns after that also temps lowered by 5 degrees.

Bumping this. I think I need your advice again groceries. I did a clean format/install today. The errors recurred. It looks like its being caused by svchost.exe tracking it down from the eventid.

any ideas? Once again, its been happening since december on my previous install and maybe even earlier on my earlier install (before december). No crashes or performance loss ever since I bought this laptop in last October. I don't want to panic needlessly but it does concern me a bit that my motherboard could flatline soon or something.

Edit: Thanks for the great response. I tried this and now to see if this band aid works. Kudos to you my man.
