Hey guys, I've had alot of issues with my G51 and the event logs just keep piling up... I think its time to do a clean install.

I know I could go to asus's website and download all 20+ drivers... some of which dont work (including Intel MEI).. so I was wondering.. How many of these drivers will windows pick-up on its own? does anyone has experiences with this?

My second question is has anyone attempted to upgrade to one of the newer 2nd gen PGA998 i7/i5 processors?

    Thanks!

You mean like a i7 2820qm? It's not possible with your laptop.

    Drivers:

Nvidia: I recommend LaptopVideo2go's site to grab the latest modded driver.

Audio: Go to realtek Realtek and click on High Definition Audio Codecs (Software). That will be your latest audio driver, if not check out the creative site if you have the creative sound card. Note: version 2.67 works for me perfectly, if you need it let me know and i'll upload it to my GDrive for you to download, 2.68 caused random lockups, haven't tested the newest 2.70.

Chipset: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=eng Run the utility to detect everything. Install the chipset drivers.

Rapid Storage Technology Driver (Sata Controller): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...OSFullname=Windows+7+(64-bit)*&ProductID=2101 There are newer beta ones but I found issues installing the,. This one works perfectly.

^^ Assuming Windows 7 x64. (Who runs 32 bit anymore?)

Synaptics touch pad (not really needed unless u want the extra features): Drivers | Synaptics

WLAN: Not sure what card it is, if it's atheros (check windows device manager for the model and make): ATHEROS Wireless drivers for Windows

LAN: ATHEROS Network drivers for Windows

Other then that you should be good to go. If your keyboard is backlit you'll need the ATK package from the ASUS site.

You can feel free to install all the useless crap that most people install on here. There is no reason to install anything else than what I listed unless you want all the Asus bloatware etc.

All those utilities don't need to be installed. Everything works as it should without all that crap.
