the silver rim you can leave. I cut the whole black part out. personally. I ahven't updated my photos yet but it is self explainitory. Also someone cut everything out and put a mesh in. He held the mesh in by putting it under the silver rim to hold it. I just leave it open personally and clean it every month or two. Also the mesh is pointless on blowing desk unless it is really fine mesh. Good for animal hair and not getting stuck in it though

I just did this mod on a g50vt I picked up last week which was overheating. Repasted, got a cooler and drilled out a 2.5" hole. GPU temps went from over 100 down to the low 80s, and that also includes a decent overclock as well!

Here's a good pic of mine, i sold the laptop last month and they couldn't believe it wasn't factory.

Also added a switch to turn the fan on 100%, routed the switch to the front left corner.

Just take your time cutting the hole, i used a hole saw then used a dremel with a sanding barrel and made it bigger. I just used some speaker grill i had laying around the shop, to get it to fit around the pins i had to have it clocked a certain way (that's why you see the black sharpie on the inside of the grill). I used a few small dabs of hot glue to hold it together.
