    Hi:

So I came across this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/473372-g51vx-temperatures-scaring-me-3.html

And realized that I might had the same issue before applying AC5, but recently my temp increased by 2-3 C so I'm thinking maybe I am experiencing temperature increase due to:

    AC5 getting old
, getting flat maybe? so gpu doesn't have proper contact with heatsink?

what is the best thermal compound there is now? Im thinking about MX3 or MX4. But how much temperature drop can you get from using better thermal compound really.

    thanks

I would guess it's more dirt and debris clogging your heatsink than a thermal transfer issue. Though you can remove the cpu and gpu heatsinks because the g51vx is so easy to take apart. I would recommend ic diamond over arctic silver 5. ICD is thicker than AS5 so it has to be applied using the compression method. ICD also cures in no time and supposedly there's a 3c drop compared to AS5.

Check out the "my old g51vx" link in my sig and you'll see how to correctly reapply thermal compound. Just be careful not to damage or destroy the thermal pads on the gpu heatsink, you only need to replace the thermal compound on the processor die.

You'll want to take the cpu heatsink apart and remove the fan to clean inside the heatsink (between the fan and the fins on the heatsink). Every laptop is designed this way and you'll be surprised what you will find hiding in the heatsink.

After you do that you can clean the old thermal compound off with either isopropyl or contact cleaner. Then reapply thermal compound and reassemble.
