I've been looking all around but I cannot for the life of me find the benchmarks on the G53 - 3D. Specifically how it will perform with certain games while using the "3d" mode

Some of the games I'm looking for is:

    WoW
    SC2
    Aion
    Rift(When it comes out)

Around these level of games. Will I get sufficient ping with the G53 in 3d, or should I put it off another Year and buy another laptop to hold me over?

    Thanks

    -Zach

3D will not affect your ping. That said, it should handle those games with no issues.

Hrm. Everything I've read said that running 3D will cut your Frames per second in half roughly.

Yeah playing SC2 with 3D will be tough for sure.

And I don't mean just performance, it will probably be your #1 reason for losing.

I think we are getting confused by your use of terms:

Ping - ping is the time it takes for you're computer to send a digital signal to a server and receive a reply. High pings (i.e. longer receive times) can create lag when playing online because their is a delay between sending a command and seeing a response onscreen. Having 3D, 2D, or different resolutions shouldn't change your ping at all, its only a function of your network card and internet speed.

FPS - fps is frames per second when referring to video content (movies, games, etc), and is influenced by how fast your computer can crunch numbers. 3d will usually cut your frame rate in half, because it has to render 2x the amount of frames to give the 3d effect (the first frame is for your left eye, and the second is for the right). As far as the G53 goes it can probably play all of the games you listed in 3d but you're going to have to drop the display options to 'low' quality in order to get a decent frame rate.

You're correct! My apologies, I mis-used the term "ping" I was referring to FPS.

So it's probably better to hold off on the 3d for another 8-12 months?

3D will generally cut your FPS by 50%~, but don't let that stop you - It's absolutely beautiful. Metallic has a 3D review for the G53 version.
