Hello everyone,
So it finally happened. I came home to visit my family and found my old G53 dead. Apparently the DC Jack is broken and I'm looking in to fixing it myself. I'm pretty comfortable tearing down the laptop (I've already swapped hard drives out about 5 or 6 times as well as replaced the screen once), but I'm new to soldering.
I looked at the G73 guide and it was very helpful but I have a few questions.
What kind of soldering tools do I need? I see a lot with different wattages and such, but I assume motherboard work requires special tools?
Can someone please describe how to get off the old DC Jack and install the new one in detail? That part worries me the most.
Thank you
Of course if anyone has a more detailed guide, please feel free to share.
I also plan on buying the 90deg DC connector as prophylaxis as well for the future.

Motherboard work is just like any other multi layer board, you will want a decent iron for the DC jack as they are soldered in well usually. You will probably want some solder wick to help remove the solder.

Would high concentration isopropyl alcohol work as well?
Does this solder kit look like it will work?

Solder itself can only be removed once heated, it is metal after all and wont dissolve.

Oh I see. Thank you!
