I recently just got back to Starcraft 2 and i'm having horrible lag spikes while playing and horrible skips on my 2 month old G53 JW, I have the settings set on High and i don't understand why this is happening? at the same time whenever i alt tab out of a game the computer freezes for a good 3-4 seconds and acts very sluggish after. I've noticed the performance getting sluggish all around and have no idea why this is happening.

Did you ever update anything on it? Like drivers and chipset software?
-
Not necessarily, I only do windows update.. that's about it, I'm not too techie with installing bios updates or anything of that sort. I'd also like to mention that my 2-3 year old G50Vt-x1 plays this game somewhat smoother than my newer machine which is insane...
-
Well, the first recommendation would be to update your video drivers. Next, I would update your Intel INF using my installer on my Driver Reference page. (see link below for both)
-
probably some unnecessary processes running in the background. Any viruses or anything too
-
-
The Intel INF package are the chipset drivers...they regulate things, like say, your Bus and USB controllers, and etc. Proper performance requires these drivers to be mostly up to date, as other drivers rely on them. That's why I list them as Core Driver Packs.
As for the drivers, use the 275.27 Beta pack. It's a very nice driver. -

If your JW has momentus xt drives, there is a firmware update that addresses some of the lagging issues: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-st95005620as-momentus-xt-sd25-available.html
Also update your atheros wireless drivers if you can. If you can't, try it on wired ethernet with the wifi disabled to rule out wifi being the problem.
Beyond that, disable any antivirus or antimalware / adware scanning programs in the background while you play sc2.
You can look into disabling indexing or removing indexed locations, and make sure you don't have automated scheduled defrags going while you are playing games. -
Make sure your are using 'High Performance' powerplan in Controlpanel, Power options Klk.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I've noticed that the left fan of my G53jw doesn't blow as much as the right one? Could it be clogged with dust or something?
-
The 2 fans are independent of each other. Left = CPU, Right = GPU. If the GPU is working harder than the CPU, then the fan will blow harder as well.

Furmark or OCCT

Well it's not my Wifi since my other friend plays his games perfectly without lag or latency issues, so that means it must be my laptop... honestly this is driving me crazy, when i exit out of a game it's freezes for a good 2-4 seconds, when i alt tab it does the same until it finally stabilizes, then i have small hiccups in almost any game i play... which i only have 3 installed in this 2 month old laptop. idk what else to do? I'm thinking of doing a clean install if that's my last option. What's weird is that the first month everything was smooth, no hiccups or lag and this slowly started happening. My SATA driver... not sure what specifically your asking for but it's called ST9500420AS ATA for my disk drive, and Slimtype BD E DS4E1S ATA for DVD/CD-ROM. -
I was referring to your Intel SATA controller.
Based on your descriptions, I feel your lag moments are being caused by excessive harddrive access during gaming. Either the game is using the pagefile, which is set to Automatic, and it's resizing during gameplay, your Seagate drives need a firmware upgrade for better SATA performance, or your game is badly fragmented.
I would:
1) Set your pagefile to a fixed size, like say 2048 both min and max.
2) Go to my Driver & Application Reference (see below) and download the firmware package for your Seagate drive.
3) While there, grab the Intel INF and Intel SATA driver packages, and install both. (Do the INF first)
4) When all is done, run Disk Defrag tool under System Tools.
If you are unsure how to do all this, borrow someone who is a bit more Windows techie. -

This is the firmware for your Seagate drives. Unzip and put them on a bootable USB flash drive. Boot to the drive and run the included bat file. -

Saw someone who did this and some people figured out why his laptop was being lagy so i decided maybe i should do the same to give further evidence of my lag, for some reason my Ram has skyrocketed and have no idea why there so much in use when i only have windows live open and even without it, a big amount of Ram if being used.
I might just go along and do a clean install since i never did when i bought this laptop but i did remove all of the bloatware except the important programs like the ATK keys. -
The GSOD section has full instructions on how to make a bootable USB stick. You do remember what DOS is, right? -
Yes, i remember what DOS is lol I have finish creating the bootable USB stick thanks so much for all the help, I'm still skeptical this will fix my lag problems since nothing else has.
