I can't stand how horribly cheap this 1080p panel is on my G53JW.. Horizontal viewing angles are nonexistent.. and vertical viewing angles are just as bad.. bad enough to see a huge difference in contrast at the top of the screen versus the bottom while viewing it perfectly centered.

Anyways, is there a way I can get my hands on a 1366x768 or 1080p panel of higher quality? I've also wondered how the 3d panel compares to the FHD on the 15.6 G53s.. better or the same I wonder?

Are the LCD panels proprietary as far as mounting goes on the G53s? What are some good websites to source 15.6" panels that do fit? And what does a person need to know to ensure they are getting a much better quality panel? I heard Clevo uses really nice 15.6 screens on their notebook but no idea if they would fit the G53.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure what screens are compatible with the G53, but the best I can tell you is that if you're looking for a new screen, you might end up getting saddled with a worse off screen. Tons of places now sell "compatible" screens, so it's kinda up to your luck what model and brand you get. It may be compatible, but it could be an inferior brand or a screen with dead pixels/stuck pixels, ect. You can look up G53 screens on Google Shopping and get some info about the panels.

In regards to mounting the screen, as long as it's compatible, it will mount. There is one vertical mount on each side of the screen which is screwed directly onto the screen and then to the back of the case. You'll have to remove these brackets (and probably the lower bracket) in order to remove the screen and insert the new one- and of course screw the vertical brackets onto the screen like on the old one.

I can't recommend ScreenCountry or LaptopScreen. Three out of three screens from them have been flawed in some way, even after they told me the screen was tested prior to shipping.

Is the G53 screen that bad? What a disappointment after all the good things I've heard about the G73 screen.

Screen quality can be a very subjective thing. Depends on what you're used to. I have a G53 and personally think mine looks great (my wife agrees and she's very picky about monitors/screens).

Same with vendors. I had a great experience with ScreenCountry...someone else gets hosed.

To each his own I guess.

I've had nothing but good experience too there, but I have a friend who got shafted 2x by them and won't buy again.

Viewing angle is probably not ideal. Reason I say probably is I'm always facing this thing straight on...so a wide viewing angle is not a priority to me.

That being said, after reading your post, I just did a quick check and you don't have to move it far before you lose the color and clarity.

As I would always say about screens...you really need to see one if you get a chance to make sure it will be what you want.

Viewing angles are ridiculously bad on this thing. I can't believe Asus used such a horrible screen in an otherwise great laptop. For me its a deal-breaker, but since I bought on newegg my options are very limited.

Anyone have experience putting an aftermarket screen in on one of these?

    Thanks

Another question, can anyone who has seen both the g73 and the g53 attest to the quality of the g73 screen? How are the viewing angles?

    Depends which g73 you get.
If you get the FHD one, hannstar, it's great. One of the better screens I've seen. The AUO or LG screens, not as much.

The FHD g53 is nice as well.

I realize this is an old topic but I just bought a replacement screen from screencountry.com and installed it in my notebook. The computer will just shut down as soon as its started up. The display doesn't turn on during this. If I disconnect the screen it will startup fine and display through my tv with no problems but as soon as I try to switch to the laptops display the computer shuts down. Does anyone know if this is a faulty screen or just not compatible? It fits the notebook fine and everything hooks up. Any idea on what I can do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
