My g53jw, which I have had for almost a year, has been turning on after I shut it down when I pick it up, or when I have it in my backpack. :( I noticed this started happening around November. To deal with it, I remove my battery after shutting down.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you guys know why this happens?

    Thank you

When you shut down your system, are you clicking the win 7 globe, and clicking shutdown? (I am sure U R but had to ask)
Are there any related errors in the system log ?
Since that is happening I would guess there could be a hardware issue that is causing this. Have U ever take it apart?

I am clicking Shut down. No known errors, and I have never taken it apart.

One thing worth checking would be your BIOS - make sure that if there is a setting for wake on LAN that it is disabled.
IF no one has a better idea and the problem is consistent I would contact ASUS for a possible RMA. (make sure you have the accidental damage warranty activated before contacting them)

try reseting cmos and if it still continues it must be , the lid sensor ,try rubbing a magnet near the caps lock and numlock lights ,im not sure which place the sensor is in g53 but for g73 its near the caps and num lock light.
Do you wait until the windows is fully shutdown , or just after you press shutdown button close the lid?

I have activated the accidental damage warranty, but I really would try to stay away from RMA.
Ok, I pretty much dont know anything about accessing BIOS or what cmos is. So I'll have to try and look into that. As for the magnets, I havent tried that. Do I have to be careful with magnets? can they cause damage or erase date from my HD?

Last- I do wait until my laptop is fully turned off before I shut the lid.

    and thanks guys

PLEASE DONT rub the magnet in anyother places exept the num lock and caps lock light, idk if it causes any damages but how ever your hard disk data wont go off :D .
did you try removing the ac adapter and battery and reinstall it and try moving your laptop.

Press F2 shortly after power on to access BIOS, use arrow keys to navigate.
Yes it should be turned off fully B4 shutting lid.
Go to control panel - Power options -change plan settings - change advanced power settings - power buttons and lid- lid close action and set both to Do nothing - then test and see if this fixes the issue.
