Hi, I just flew in to the US close to two weeks ago, upon arrival and powering up my laptop, I discovered that the screen remained blank (no asus boot logo or anything). Even when it reached the desktop (keyboard backlight turns on when it reaches the desktop) the screen still remained blank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks (I know it's kinda late to post this (2 weeks lol))

It's probably a loose LCD cable. Try plugging in an external monitor to make sure it's not a dead GPU or something else.

I also have this problem. For a bit of a back story:

I have had this laptop for around 1.5 years. Since a week ago, my only problem has been the magnetic lid and that way solved long ago when I used warranty and had it repaired. However since A couple months ago, the laptop was simply terrible at gaming and constantly overheated. After finding out that it can't even play borderlands 1 on low 1080p graphics, I opened it up, around last week. I found a huge amount of dust blocking the fans and after cleaning them, it's been as good as new.

Now here's the thing, today I decided to wipe the laptop. I removed the power cable, kept the battery, and moved it to bed. I was downloading some things so I didn't turn it off. As I wiped the right part of the mouse pad, the laptop turned off (seems my battery is trashed. It was only 40 min at most). Now I reconnected it to the power cable and now the screen never turns on even tho everything else does.

I suspected at the time that i loosely reconnected the LCD so I took the entire laptop apart to reconnect the LCD. While opening the LCD, I noticed that some of its cables were sorta under the hinges. Is it possible that I've cut a cable or something? All of them seems to be ok tho. I've already reconnected the LCD cables to the motherboard nicely. I can't test with an external monitor. It doesn't seem to work. It has been at least month since I last connected an external monitor but I believe it's not the problem. The external monitor cord should still work even if the LCD doesn't right? Can anyone help?

Yes, if the issue is just with the LCD, an external monitor will work. If the external does not work either, then it may be an issue with the motherboard or GPU.

When I did a practice run disassembling my screen, there are LCD cables that run through the hinges and then down to the motherboard, but they would be difficult to cut or tear.

You might try holding the power button to force it off, then removing the battery and AC power. Hold the power button for a few seconds to drain any mobo power, then reconnect everything. Sometimes a wonky sleep mode causes my screen to stay off.

Also I just realized, were you downloading Windows Updates?

If your laptop shut off unexpectedly (battery died), while Windows updates was installing, it could have corrupted some important files or even your BIOS which would also explain these problems.

Yes, after checking it over with my father, I believe that the problem is the motherboard. I don't have the confidence to change the motherboard myself, and as I'm not 100% sure it's the motherboard, I'm just sending it to an asus service center (20 min from house; so nice :) ). As my warranty is over (and I voided it anyways), I'll have to pay for labour. How much do you think the labour cost is if they have to switch the motherboard?
