Hello there, after seeing how fast a notebook can become in general usage with a SSD, I've decided to put one into mine wand replace the two 500GO hard drives that are inside. I want it to contains windows and all my games, programs and maybe a few small VM, on my current setup it takes a bit more than 100GO since it's growing fast, I think that 256GO will not be too much.
So my choice for the SSD is the Crucial M4 256 Go because it seems very good according to many reviews, is there any problem using it on the G53SW ?

For the HDD I'm thinking to take the Seagate Momentus SpinPoint M8 1 To because that the cheapest I can get. It will contain all other files (Documents/videos etc...)
I think the best way to achieve what I want is to use Junction Points with the mklink utility or maybe this Steam Mover - traynier.com

Since I never opened this laptop and don't want to it often, I will upgrade the RAM as well, 8GB can be a bit short when using several VMs and the RAM is currently very cheap anyway.
However I'm not totally sure about how to proceed, see my attachment.
    Why CPU-Z reports 667Mhz while I think it's 1333MHz ?
Will Crucial SO-DIMM 8 Go (2x 4 Go) DDR3 1333 MHz works with it without performance loss ?

If you have any suggestions concerning the replacement parts, don't hesitate, I haven't ordered any of them currently.

For the disassembly, I will follow this video:
    BTOtech.com | G53Jw & G53Sw Disassembly Take Apart G53 g53j service manual - YouTube
If I understand correctly I will have to take apart almost everything to access the 4th RAM slot, will it void the warranty if I do so ?

The Crucial M4 should be compatible, though i would personally recommend the Intel 520. To each his own. No diff.

Instead of getting a cheaper HDD, why don't you find out which of the 2 current stock Momentus HDDs contains the ASUS Backup Partion, take it out and use the other empty one as your Secondary HDD.

I would try to keep my RAM modules standard throughout the laptop just to ensure some stability. So if you are going to upgrade your RAM, i would suggest replacing all or adding more of the stock Hynix. Also remember to check your memory clocks. I managed to get 9 9 9 24 for mine.

For the Intel 520, it is newer and has better performance than the crucial, I will maybe take the 180GB but it is a bit more expensive and 60GB less than the crucial 240GB. 180GB seems still enough.

I replace my current 500GB HD with 1TO beause I don't want to downgrade the storage capacity by adding a SSD (I don't have the 2x500 totally filled but the SSD + only one 500GB is a bit short). Having spare parts is not a big problem because I/my familly almost always end up using them later. (barebone PC/ replace broken things)

I'm a bit hesitant about the ram: It seems very difficult to find Hynix RAM, so I might take a different brand to complete ( if someone has succesfully mix hynix ram with other brand without issues and performance loss, please post ) or totally replace the RAM ( what is the higher frequency that the mainboard/CPU support ?)
