I just bought a Western Digital My Passport SE 1TB with USB 3.0/2.0 support. I'm using the supplied USB 3.0 cable (blue tip) and it's giving me a lot of problems. Basically when it's plugged into the 3.0 port the drive would randomly de-mount, then re-mount right away. This only happens when files are being transferred. Everything is fine when the drive is plugged into the USB 2.0 ports. I've read that some people were having trouble with their G73's USB 3.0 port so I wonder if it also applies to the G53.

    ASUS G53SW-XN1
    Windows 7 HE x64 SP1
Post SP1 USB 3.0 Hotfix installed
    Latest USB 3.0 driver - 3.3.35.0
Latest WD My Passport firmware 1003

    Any ideas?

I'm going to exchange the external drive and if the same thing happens then it's probably a problem with my laptop.

    Thanks!

I have the exact same hard drive you have and mine works perfectly though I guess I'm one of the very few lucky ones. Search in this forum itself. There are many many people who suffer from the exact same problem you have.

Which version of the Fresco driver are you using? I'm using 3.3.35.0 for Controller FL1000 Series.

FYI, I exchanged it for another drive and the problem persists. Looks like it's a problem with the laptop.

I think it can be better to try Asus supply,,,Original initial one.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G53SW

    Hope it can be helpfull

But one more thing, if still problem continues it can be better to try with another " different brand " 3.0 hdd to decide which one has problem, computer or hdd itself.

I reinstalled the driver and no luck. I tested the drive on my friend's computer (desktop usb 3.0) with no problems. I reinstalled windows and it still wouldn't work. I'm pretty sure now that it's something on my laptop that's causing this. I don't understand what ASUS is doing these days in terms of quality control...

Quick update: Newegg swapped me a new G53. Same problem persists on both stock and latest USB 3.0 Drivers. Guess I'll have to live with it.
