This is a nightmare, Since yesterday I am trying to get work this OCZ vertex 3 128gb in my G53SW.
First Off I put SSD in bay one, the default HD in second Bay. I got problem when try to install windows, like cant copy I/O error.
Changed to Bay 2, then windows cannot format my HD.
Returned to bay 1. With my case open the sometimes I can install windows, but after I close the SSD cant write anything.
I have tested with the case open only with keyboard plugged.
Inside windows when I tried to copy something to SDD partition, the speed drops until get 0.

I dont think this is related to software beacuse I got 7.9 score in windows with my case open.
Also this SSD works perfect in ubuntu.

Am I missing something for SSD?

    Thanks!

I figure out whats going on.
The standard windows driver for AHCI is causing this problem.
I need now a way to install windows without using this driver or replacing this one with the intel rapid storage driver.
I loaded the driver inside install but windows refuse because its not signed. I wil try to add the driver to windows image and another windows 7 installer without SP1.

If anyone have any clue please post. ;)

    Hey there,

Just letting you know you're not alone in this - I just bought the same SSD yesterday and spent around six hours trying to install Windows 7 on it.
I've tried it in both bays, with and without my other harddrive connected.
What's happening for me is the Windows installer completes the "Copying Windows Files" steps in less than a second, then gets stuck at 0% when it goes to "Expand Windows Files" (or whatever the step is called). Eventually it gives some error about how the required files are not found (though the Windows ISO I'm using is fine, I've used it a couple times before) - just seems to be a problem with accessing the files on the SSD.

I'll keep trying and let you know if I find any way to get this working, but please do the same!

Exactly what is happening to me. Please try to make a ticket in OCZ support maybe they wake to this problem. Mention my ticket 209958.

For now I will try to downgrade firmware to 2.06, because I saw somewhere about telling to do it in order to install windows.

Let me know how that works out.
I still haven't managed to get it working, but I tried installing Windows while in Windows on my other HDD (as opposed to booting into the Windows installer). With the SSD formatted, I ran the Windows 7 setup and tried installing to the SSD and was surprised that the Copying Windows Files speed was much more reasonable (took around 20 seconds), and it even managed to get to 20% in the Expanding Windows Files step. However, this is when it restarted and upon returning it wasn't able to get past 20%, eventually giving the error about missing required files.

I'm trying the same method again right now, but for some reason this time the Copying Windows Files step is taking forever - at 41% now after an hour, but it IS still progressing, just very slowly.

    Nightmare indeed.

I was the same looking around at all the problems it scared the hell out of me spending that much money for an SSD that could turn up DOA or not even work without a firmware flash. But the performance gain is worth the risk to me now I have one.

I settled for an SSD that was mid range and required no firmware update and was literally plug and play. I loaded windows straight onto it and I achieve 230mb/s read 210mb/s write from the 96GB Kingston V+100. Have tweaked it and had 0 problems. It is SATA II though so may not be of use to you.

Here is my thread also it has lots of information about a variety of SSD and their problems. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/601886-g73jh-ssd-newb.html

I did that. Installed the windows in SSD inside other windows(in my HDD). But the result is a messy installation.

To get more speed try to use RST driver instead another AHCI driver.
I this driver works for me perfectly, I just need now a workaround to get this drivers working inside windows installation.

ShineBox! is the Exactly same problem I have recently, before I have other problems, but now, with the SSD formated and "Secure Erased" I have your problem now... I wait for a long time, and the installation Hangs on 18%

Now I have windows 7 fresh installed in my SSD.
    This is what I did:
-Open the notebook case and removed SDD and my HDD.
-Installed SSD in bay 0, without the metal caddie, yes it was loose.
-Didnt close my case, I just turned my notebook and installed the keyboard.
-after that I was able to install windows 7.
-Before I close the case, I installed intel RST drivers.
-Closed the case(removed my SSD and installed the caddie).

I did every step with firmware version 2.06, tried to update(to 2.09 and 2.11) after windows installed but I got BSOD. The firmware 2.06 seems stable to me.

I already notice with my case open the SSD works, I tried to fix its position with rubber, tried also not connect(sata connector and SDD connector) until the end, no success. I dont know why it is happening this.

I hope it help you guys! :D

    Hey creyssonbr,

Congrats on finally getting it working!

May I ask where you got the 2.06 firmware?
Also, during the Windows 7 installation, did you have to load any extra drivers?

    Thanks

Vertex 3 has major firmware and controller issues, I would avoid this drive like the plague. I've been trying to get mine operational without BSOD's and freezes for months now without resolution. If you don't believe me, just take a look at all of the problems people are experiencing on the OCZ support forum:

Yes there are a lot of known issues with all ssds that use that sandforce controller.

I picked up an intel 510 240gb ssd and it works great. No problems at all.

Does the SSD come inbuilt or external for xr1 or A1 ?
    what are the problems.

Im thinking of putting the 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS Sandforce Solid State Drive.
    Please advise

Some guys had serious troubles with their Vertex 3 SSDs, so if you have G53 I dont really recommend you to buy this SSD right now.

These machines do not come with those SSDs preinstalled. You would have to go through a reseller that does customizations to get it with that, or do the upgrade yourself once you receive the machine.

    Hey creyssonbr,

I tried your method with no luck, so I ended up returning the OCZ and picked up a lower end Intel C320 instead. It's obviously not nearly as fast but it was still a HDD -> SSD transition so I'm still happy.
The C320 was totally plug-n-play, no hassle, easy. Very reliable so far.

Thanks for your help though - hopefully it works for some people out there!

    Hi Guys!,

Thanks for your preocupation, but no, still no work at all...

I tried all methods, tips and changing bays, Different windows 7 installations/versions, Intel F6 disk drivers, etc... all! and no... the SSD doesn't work 100%.

The other day I have a disk collapse, the system get freezes a lot of times in one day, I decided to remove the disk and put in on my desktop PC for backup use... but that was not my first idea... I want it to use on my G53. I don't know why my laptop was taking so much problem with the OCZ SSD, I have to do a new fresh install on the original HDD (750GB Disk 7200rpm) and now all working fine, but I have to disconnect the SSD.

Thanks for your help guys, but in my case nothing works.

I hope some day Intel or OCZ get some good firmware/driver for this great laptop and we can use at 100% performance and NO problems with this SSDs.

    Regards.

    Hey guys!

I have a question on this matter, so you are trying to install windows 7 on a ssd, and some of the ssdies are sata 3 so, do you directly connect the ssd (sata 3) to the sata 2 connector, or if the connector is already sata 3 how do you know it?

On the Sandybridge models, the HDD connectors are SATA3.
