Just RMA'd the computer- the power port had a bad connection. They wound up replacing the motherboard. Ever since then, my keyboard lights will not come on at all. I have scoured the internet looking for a fix/reason. Can't find it.

I reinstalled the ATK package. I checked to make sure the power ribbon was put in correctly. All the other function keys work. I have togged the hard lights on/off button.

Need help/suggestions on what to attempt next. Would Gary's fix work for a G53?

Try Fn+F4 :) You may also need to cycle the light control button first.

If what Chastity said doesn't work, remove the keyboard and check the cables again. Especially the thin cable. Try changing directions in which it was installed.

I guess RMAing once again is the only option left...

With school starting soon, I can't afford to be without a computer for two weeks. Guess I'll just have to deal with it.

    Go Asus.

My thought as well, since it's intended for the G73.

If Chastity recommended it then you dont need to question it as her knowledge is sound.

Out of curiosity the keyboard backlight will always turn on for a few seconds during boot, if it does not I would say its a hardware problem. Would not put it past Asus damaging something during the RMA. If it does come on during boot its a software problem.

Not my thoughts. That keyboard light fix was directly related to the G73jh bios. So I would not bet on it. It may work, but I sure wouldn't risk it or you may guarantee being sent to Asus for a motherboard replacement.

If you want to be the test guinea pig, go for it.

Well what I said is not 100% but I put my chips on the section that says its a hardware problem. You said that the ribbon is ok have you checked to make sure it is seated correctly in the connector underneith the keyboard? otherwise it could be a problem with the the ribbon or the connector....damn Asus RMA!

As far as I could tell, everything looked fine. I'd grab the multimeter and see if there is even power at the connector on the motherboard, but I have no way of probing into that little connector. That would at least narrow it down to an issue on the motherboard or an issue on the ribbon/keyboard.

If your confident in what your doing whip off the keyboard and dissassemble down to removing the top cover so you can check underneith the keyboard and the connector on the mobo. You could also check the ribbon that goes into the keyboard this may have come loose under the foil.

If the light does not flash during POST, it probably is a hardware problem. Do u have a friend who has the same or similar model? Maybe check with him/her by swapping keyboards? If the connector is okay, let's hope you can buy the keyboard alone? The best bet would be an RMA or taking it to a local Asus service centre? Just my thoughts.....

i have this exact same problem, my comp had a defect motherboard and its been replaced with RMA, now the keyboard back-light doesn't work at all. it doesn't light up during startup for a few seconds like it should do even without the ATK package. i've checked the small orange cord connection to the motherboard quite a few times and even stuck it in the other way around.

i believe the ATK package isnt the problem because when i press the lights button the screen shows "All lights on/off". when i had the ATK package problem i dont think that massage even came up untill i repaired the package.

i wish somebody knew a solution to this problem, i really miss my back-light.

Guess one more RMA is in order. Trust Asus to fix one problem and replace it with another one. What do the technicians there do to screw up things so bad?

I can confirm the kblightfix intended for G73 works on G53. Just did on my G53Sw laptop and the keyboard back light is now on.
