I've recently had a problem with my laptop switching from battery to AC mode over and over. While gaming the plug gets super hot and it happens then.

I checked the power adapter with a multimeter and it outputs 19.3-19.5 volts.

I've read about others with the same issue, anyone else find a solution to this problem?

Yeah I've read about the Targus but was hesitant to buy it until I was sure it was that. Also I just checked the laptop again. If the plug is in, even the slightest movement will cause it to run on battery mode (as if it weren't plugged in).

It seems that I have to hold the plug in a certain spot to make it stay on AC mode.

More than likely you need a new dc jack because yours is damaged.

I it is under warranty, then yes i would send it, sounds like the rather common loose DC jack issue.

regular warranty will cover that too just send it in as fast as possible. Also keep us posted on their return time for warranty issues. They have been getting real crappy. If it takes them more then 2 weeks call and threaten to take them to small claims court for break of warranty. One guy on here took like 2 months to get his laptop back.

Here is a tale of woe about the same issue: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...month-ago-they-havent-done-anything-yet.html#

Unfortunately, the ASUS fix involves replacing the motherboard with the same weak power connector pin. This has caused some users to have to RMA their laptop multilple times for this same issue. I'm not surprised they can't keep the motherboard in stock for these repairs. It is just a poor design.

The thing that concerns me is that the pin is still there, maybe the problem is where the end of the pin connects to the mb, idk just a thought.

Besides backing up my data, are there any other things recommended to do before sending in the lappy?

take any after market parts out and replace with original. Also mark the RMA forum with exactly everything is in your laptop. Also dont send any CDs or adapters in. I dont know if you need to send battery either. If you do put on packaging list that battery is with it. Lastly, take photos of your laptop and CD/product numbers and copy the packaging list

My RMA number begins with USG, where does that mean it's going? I read on the RMA guide thread and all I see is USA1 or USA2.

I have yet to receive the laptop, it is still [WB1]. I called about a week ago and Asus said they got the new touchpad in but when they installed it, it wasn't working right so they had to get another. (I asked them to replace the touchpad, the button was broken.)

They didn't mention the power pin though, so maybe they already replaced it.

I spoke with the supervisor and he told me they would escalate it and send me an email within 24-48 hours with an estimated time of completion. I still haven't received an email.

I called again today and Asus said that they were still waiting on parts and to just check again next week or call back. It's been a month now and I'm not sure how much longer it will take...

I got my laptop back, it looks like they set me up for power pin breakage again judging by the alignment of the plug....

Personally, I am getting sick of this. My G53SW-XA1 is going this AGAIN. This is the third time. I'm not really sure what recourse I have in this matter. I got the laptop for Christmas last year, so my warranty is going to expire soon. I fear that I will send the laptop in, and once I get it back, another three months from now, it will be broken, and I will be stuck with no laptop, since I can't really afford to buy a new mobo every three months. This is a seriously fatal design flaw in this computer. I think Asus needs to 1)redesign the DC jack to ensure this does not happen again and 2)cover all mobo replacements of the old boards with the revised ones, even if the laptop is otherwise out of the warranty. This is pretty much how Microsoft handled the RROD debacle with the XBox 360, and is really the only acceptable response from them. I can say this much: I'm going to have to send my laptop in again. If this happens again AFTER that, for the same problem, and it's out of warranty, and Asus refuses to replace the mobo at their cost, then I'm going to seek legal counsel in terms of class action, because this is a blatantly faulty product.

it's just a poor design. buy the right angle adapter. It really helps preserve the dc jack.

I plan on doing a dc jack replacement tutorial for my g53sx but i haven't broke the jack yet. The right angle adapter has seemed to help take the stress off it if you bump the cord or accidentally pull it away when the cord is stuck.

Here's a link to the right angle adapter.

    Right Angle 90 Degree Converter for 5 5 x 2 5mm Power Connector Bixpower LC53 | eBay

If your warranty goes out it's only about $100 to get the dc jack replaced (that's what i normally charge). You can find services on ebay for dc jack replacement as well.
