Just got my notebook yesterday, everything working fine except from the fact that the usb 3.0 port fails work with my samsung s2 usb 3.0 external hard drive. The drive shows up on the device and printers, but not on my computer. I checked the device manager and see there seems to be some problem with the driver of the hard drive when it is connected but i can't find any updates for it on samsung. I have updated to the latest fresco usb 3.0 driver from asus. The drive can also run fine on any other usb 2.0 ports on the notebook and usb 2.0 devices work in the usb 3.0 port as well.

Sorry for the messy paragraph, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just took the drive back to the shop and they demonstrated on the spot with their desktop and the drive was running at 100MB/s while transferring files so it probably isn't the drive's problem.

It could be a driver issue, or a power issue. The port will only output .5v as per spec, and the drive may be looking for more.

Here's the latest version in case you got an earlier one:

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/USB3.0/USB3_Fresco_Win7_64_Z3540.zip

The newer models, like the G74SX, has the AI Charger Plus function where the voltage output can be bumped up to .9v. If this turns out to be the problem, a self-powered USB Hub that is 3.0 compatible would be a solution.

Chastity, when did you join ASUS? Have you always been with them?

Tried the newest fresco driver, didn't help much. Also tried a new usb 3.0 y-cable bought from ebay, the drive can now always be detected from the usb 3.0 port but detected as 2.0 drive and runs at 2.0 speed. Also gave a try with Asus AIcharger, but the icon always has a red cross on it so i assume it isn't working.

If you want, you can send the laptop and drive here, and I can diagnose it.
