    Not exactly the answer to your question but the G53SW-A1 I purchased in July 2011 does come with the emtpy second HD caddy

    Yes it does. I have the G53SW-XT1 and it has the second HD caddy, as well as the screws which are in a seperate bag with the fiber cloth.

    On a side note, the warranty information that TigerDirect has listed for this model is incorrect. The website says it comes with 1 year warranty with 1 year accidental. It in fact comes with a 2 year warranty and the 1 year accidental. The sticker on my palm rest says 24 months, as well as the sticker on the bottom of the laptop :)

    For $1299 it comes with a Blu-Ray drive and the standard warranty just like on the A1. Not too shabby in my opinion. ;)
