Ok, I have the old G73JH-BST7 from BB, and a friend of mine wants to buy it for 800$ since he wants it right now. Since I kinda hate it with it being soooo large and heavy too, I was thinking of selling my G73, then buying this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Selling my G73 + 1100$ budget, I would still have some cash left, and I was thinking of buying a good SSD. Thing is, I really don't know anything about different SSDs, all I know is it boosts up loading times.

So, do you guys think this G53SX is a good one or is there something better? And which SSD is also good?

If you're looking at gaming you might actually get a drop in performance going to the G53SX model. Your current computer has a ATI 5870 which has a 192bit bus on it. The G53SX model while using a GTX 560M its the lower 128bit version. It's actual performance might be slightly less then you're currently seeing. If you go with the G74SX models they use the 192bit but so they will be better but you mentioned the size is inconvenient. If you're set on going 15.6" the G53SX is still the best Asus offers at this time.

For SSD drives go with a SATA III. Intel 510 series and Crucial M4 are very popular. OCZ Vertex 3 are also good and what i personally use and really am happy with but there are mixed reviews on those.

Everything said is right although the 5870M having a 192bit would be nice but sadly it doesn't :D I am sure its just been a long day for you fella ;)

Stick with the JH if your only choice to upgrade is a 128bit Nvidia GPU as you will lose gaming performance from the 5870M which has a totally different archictecture so even though it is 128bit as well is performs much higher.

You can still just keep your JH and put an SSD into it however a SATA III will only run at SATA II speeds, still a big performance boost over a mechanical drive but not anywhere near as fast as SATA III, you can also pick up some very cheap deals on a SATA II SSD now as well.

Your best bet for an Asus specific upgrade would be the newer G74SX models with the newer models of Sandy Bridge processor and making sure you stay away from the BBK best buy models and getting a 192bit 560M.

I hate being wrong :( thanks for being nice about it though 128bit bus it is.

I also agree with upgrading to an SSD. Thats the #1 thing to upgrade to see a noticeable increase in overall computer performance.

haha not at all I am wrong a lot of the time I wouldn't worry and truth be told I would have been so happy with a 192bit 5870M :) the amount of GPU's you probably deal with information overload!

I am intrigued to see what the difference will be from SATA II Kingston 230/180 to my new HyperX 550/530. I was considering buying 2 as they are cheap and setting up a RAID 0 but I assume that would be overkill.

I would say that the sale of your current laptop plus the added budget should propel you into looking at something a bit more powerful. Like something from MSI or Sager.

Sager or Clevo would give you the option for the 6970M, whereas the MSI models come stock with the GTX 570M. Both are leagues faster than the current GPU you have now. :p That and you'd have plenty of money to spend on a SSD anyhow. :D

I can vouch for the gaming performance one gives. It's the reason I'm going for the 512GB Kingston drive to replace my data drive slot. :D
