I will make it short and clear.
- Playing Modern Warfare 3, the game suddenly freezed( first issue) (the log from GPUZ showed the temp was only 75*C at that moment).
- Nothing could be done but holding Power Button down for hard shutdown.
- Pressing Power Button, the system boot up but NO DISPLAYING( second issue) (I could hear the logon music that confirmed the windows booting up successfully).
- Hard shutdown again
- ....waiting for a few minutes.....
- Pressing Power Button, system boot up with DISPLAYING ON, everything is normal .
I have encountered this issue 3 times and they're all the same: freezing in MW3, immediate power on after hard shutdown causes NO DISPLAYING, power on again after few minutes of waiting and everything's good.
I have also tried some tests:
- Running 3-hour test of SeaTool and PASS --> no fault in HDD, right ?
- Running 15-min test of Furmark, temp went up to 93*C but no freezing/artifact --> no fault in GPU, right ?
I really appreciate any help from anyone.
PS: I'm having 285.62 nvidia driver, BIOS 203, I just thought about updating vBIOS but it's the shame that I don't know how touhm...what is different between BIOS and vBIOS, I don't see anything vBIOS on ASUS site.
-
Now I just see this issue the 4th time
- After 30min of playing MW2 smoothly, I quit and browsing Internet with my Kodomo Dragon browser and the freezing happen
- The sequence is the same: immediate power on after hard shutdown causes NO DISPLAYING, power on again after few minutes of waiting and everything's good
I had updated the Atheros driver as suggestion on rog.asus
I'm thinking about bad motherboard, but this issue is not consistent so I'm not sure if bringing it to Warranry Center again is a good idea. I'm afraid they will return the laptop to me and concur "we cannot reproduce the problem"
To be more precise, NO DISPLAYING means completely dark, even no screen backlight -
Anyone plz help !!!
I had finished 3 hrs and a half of running Furmark this morning, temp went up to 93*C and no freezing or artifact. So is it able to tell that GPU isn't the one to blame ? -
Well the GPU itself isn't faulty, that much seems certain. you could do try a video memory test to see if you have a bad module. I think OCCT has a video memory test option for nVidia cards.
Also check the windows event log for any errors that might have occurred. -
If the system is shutting down, and staying off for a few minutes, then you are having thermal shutdown. It can be either the GPU or CPU, and seeing it's MW2, it can be either.
I'd like to have the unit come in on a RMA. Can you PM me your personal info plus serial number, so I can get it set up to come here?
Case: 1622370 -
Thank you so much, Chastity, but I'm in Vietnam, I'm gonna bring it to the Warranty Center here if the issue is more consistent.
I tried to identify the root cause, after hours of Furmark and playing any games other than MW2 and MW3, the issue hadn't occurred. Maybe I can believe it's software-related problem.
Can you tell me more about that thermal shutdown, in my situation, when the system was frozen and hard shutdown, the screen was OFF for a few minutes, the recorded temp of GPU was only 75*C that was much lower than what in Furmark test. -
The issue had become more frustrating, after 5 min of Furmark (no gaming before that) --> freezing, tried to reset few times but the display's always OFF. Waiting for hours later, power on again and things work normally but.....freezing again after a few minutes in windows
I sent it to the Warranty Center again 2 days ago.
Never thought what should be a great machine can bring me this frustration -
You do not even talk about windows fresh install.
So , even if it may be dumb , did you try this ?
BTW , as people said , MW3 and MW2 have the VERY SAME engine ( i even got some error in the 3 i use to have in the 2 , they don't even correct some of the bugs ... ) , so it may be a corrupt install , as thoses games are probably the most sold and the worst game in term of bugs , just behind Bethesda , world champion ).
