Ok, so I just bought this and it should arrive today. I've never had an ASUS and have never purchased from NewEgg.

I need some help on initial setup.

I always install Anti-Virus software first (PC Tools)

What is the best way to check for bad pixels?
    What bloatware should I remove?
What should I download to properly overclock the system?
    Should I use a registry edit/protect program?
What recommendations do you have for me to get this thing in top shape and ready to roll?

Just got mine and she's a beut. I didn't see any bad pixels. The only problem was while uninstalling some Bloatware the backlighting went off and that I was able to fix. Too bad it arrived at 8 pm otherwise I would have had more time to prep it before I start really using it.

Would you guys recommend installing all the newer drivers listed on the link above?

I advice to clean install windows 7, then install atk+keyboard filter/intel chipset driver/xfi modded package.
    Then nvidia drivers/directx update.
The default os is full of crap and is really slow. Also if you can't live without AV I advice Microsoft Security Essential.

    So
    1. unistall windows completely and then download it and reinstall
    2. Install ATK drivers/chipset/xfi modded package from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download
    3. Update Video drivers
    4. Update Direct X

I don't have a windows 7 Disk....Do I need to uninstall and reinstall or just download and run a repair Windows to overwrite the bloat stuff?

    These are the steps.

    1. Get the iso from here and burn it on a DVD-R possibly at 4x speed.
    2. Launch the disk just burned by pressing ESC during Bios post and select the dvd drive.
    3. Once it boots into Windows 7, proceed to the installation up the point it shows all the drives installed and relative partitions.
    4. You can remove the recovery partition if you want since theres nothing really interesting in there. Its up to you. If you want to keep the recovery partition however it become useless once you install a clean version.
    5. Select the HDD/Partition you want and Format it. Or Delete it. I guess format it is ok thought.
    6. Proceed with Windows 7 installation and when it asks for a product code, insert the one in the sticker below your laptop.
    7. Done

    Now:

    1. Go to Chastity thread over Asus Rog forum and get all your stuff from there: G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

    2. Get Intel Chipset INF for Series 5 v9.2.0.1025 and install it
    3. Get Keyboard Filter 1.003 (Use of Microsoft HID driver is acceptable)
ATK Package 1.0.0008 (Enables custom keys) This plus Power4Gear Hybrid enables Twin Turbo Button with animation. Install first one the the other one.
    4. After the Intel driver and ATK/KB, go to Chastity driver page linked above and get Nvidia Notebook Drivers 280.26 and install them. Update Direct X.

    Then install all of these:

    USB (All)
