Yes and mainly because of the graphics card. I see you're fairly new to the forums so you'll be forgiven :) but this has been discussed quite abit. But now you'll know as well as other new member's.

The G53SX GTX 560M is a 128bit bus card vs a 192bit bus card on the G74SX. You can tell by the amount of RAM on the card. The 1.5 and 3GB versions are 192bit bus while the 2GB versions are 128bit bus.

To add on what Hutsady said, the memory bus width does make a difference. I also find that 17" is better suited for a 1080p lcd.

I just bought the G53sx about a week ago. The G74sx was $100 more (w/o the BluRay drive, but 12GB RAM and 1 750GB drive vs. the 2x500GB in my G53sx). Though I was aware of the limitations of the GPU, I just couldn't get over the size of the G74sx. If I was looking for a Desktop replacement, I probably would've gone w/ the G74sx, but alot of my laptop use is on the couch, with it, well, in my lap. The G53SX fits my needs a bit better, and I'm pretty happy w/ the graphics performance as is (so far...).
