Problem 1. The subwoofer is not linked to mute when headphones are plugged in. This includes both normal heaphones and iPhone headphones with mic. I can produce it over and over on queue and is NOT intermittent like people say it is on the forums. They are just not reproducing the same situation. "At least this is my experience." ( From a technical aspect I can reproduce it enough to call it not intermittent). All new (headphones already plugged in) webpages and programs that produce audio will initially still allow sound to come from the software unless you mute or alter the volume by 1 level up or down. (Drive problem? Defiantly yes!) Since it does not matter what software you use.
Problem 2. Intermittent keyboard lights they will not turn back on and the fn + up or down will not work for them to get them back. I know how to reproduce it but it does not always respond but it does happen enough that it is very aggravating. Anytime a screen or battery saving function initializes the keyboard lights have a chance of going out. This happens even when you switch uses modes with the on the fly performance button next to power and it also happens when the screen is closed and reopened, when you sleep or hibernate the computer and when you screen saver initializes and wakes back up. I have reproduced ever one of these situations and it is intermittent. (Driver problem? Defiantly yes!) Since it does not matter if you reinstall drivers or what you change in windows. You can still reproduce it.
Is this a problem on the G75 only or both G55 and G75?
Don't say you don't have this issue until you actually tested it.
Thank You

I dont have these issues on my G75VW. But got others things like the sound predominantly comes from the left side (subwoofer side) at normal times, one can hear the sound coming from left side when when left channel is muted, the keyboard backlighting below the right side of the spacebar doesn't work, and backspace and delete buttons doesn't register properly, etc. The list goes on.
IMO every machine has its own defects. If you cant live with it, you should try for a RMA. Good luck! -
uninstall the audio driver, reboot, then install the latest one:
Via Audio Driver v6.0.01.10500d -
I can only speculate on this. They have made the subwoofer on a separate circuit or something since the speakers never turn on with headphones on. Never.
Now they have to control this subwoofer, but I guess it's not that simple and after quite a few sound drivers, some problems are still there. They did manage to make Windows control the volume of the subwoofer. At first that was not possible at all.
I have no idea who makes these speakers, but it looks like they know little about sound quality. The subwoofer takes care of lows and mids. That is a poor choice. The speakers only output some high frequencies. It's normal to get an unbalanced scene if you sit too close to it. From distance it will get better.
The sound is the main failure of G series. I have said this before, just terrible. Dell Inspiron N7720 with Skullcandy is miles away. I wish I had that on Asus. I wish Asus will stop using these speakers in the future. It's such a shame that they did use them now since they have better options as we speak (write).
Asus with G series could have been on top of the game. -
The audio system on the G75 is the worst aspect of the system. Mediocre sound card with buggy drivers and crappy speakers. Love the thing otherwise.
Have you tried disabling the "2.1" setting in the audio control panel when using headphones?
Also, you can see if these drivers help. They are newer than anything Asus has on their site: Download VIA HD Audio Driver 10.5.00.33.120608 Driver for Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows XP X64 / Windows Vista64 / Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 / Windows 8 / Windows 8 x64 - Softpedia
These drivers seem to have improved the weird headphone/speaker switching glitches I had, but since they appear to be so different for so many people (a testament to crappy drivers) I can't guarantee it will help but it's worth a try.
Or you can just get a USB sound card to avoid it entirely, the Soundblaster X-fi Go (35 bucks) or X-fi Surround 5.1 (60 bucks or 40 for refurbished) are decent options. If you have nice headphones the sound quality will also be better than the Via junk. -
Ah, thanks for the link to the VIA audio driver. It seemed to have solved my audio output via headphone switching issue.
UPDATE: I spoke too soon. Still have the same issue. -
SOUND settings, my sound settings on G75 latest drivers and settings. 10600a looked more stable to me.
