I'm about to purchase a G53 or possibly a G73 soon. Just wonder if anyone here has experience with this machine when travelling?

I know several airlines have inpower sockets even for economy class. I've read the power supply is limited to 75w but that may be old information?

Has anyone had experience travelling with a G73? Can you get it powered on a plane? Thanks

Every flight I've taken I've flown coach and even when there are ports available in coach the airlines say they don't support them anymore. That being said first class is prolly different ;)

Always work Mastersquall :( Not had a vacation in 3 damn years. Final destination in Pune.

First time flying Kingfisher first as well. Completely fedup with BA's buisness class and service, would rather plough money into the Indian econnomy that needs it more than the UK does :)

I can't even imagine trying to plop this thing on my lap in coach, :) I would need a shoe-horn and Vaseline.

I typically fly twice a month. The only airline I have seen that has had power in coach is Virgin America (at least domestically). That being said I had absolutely no issues using the power in flight with that airline. I’m looking forward to seeing more airlines wire up coach as I doubt the company will allow me to fly first class anytime soon. :)

I am the Business Continuity Manager for an Invesment Bank. We offshore part of our operations team to another company based in Pune.

Therefore I am in Inida a fair amount.

    It is a reference...

...but I am not telling LOL

    PS

I am still waiting on whether I can or cannot bust out my 8 pound 17.3 inch laptop and game elbow to elbow on an airplane...

These are things I need to know.

Isn't there less power draw/consumption from a laptop with the battery removed?

I have only flown on United and Lufthansa with my gaming notebooks. Here is my experience. The 130+ watt brick with the G73 will shut down to at seat power instantly as soon as the notebook fires up. I previously had a Gateway 17" monster and tried to play a Blu-ray disc on a plane. The power adapter was a 120 watt unit. Everything was fine until the disc started to spin, then the current draw was too high and the power cut off at which point the notebook went into lower power battery mode and the current draw dropped. Then the in seat power went back on and it just cycled like this endlessly.

Back on topic, I now travel with a small 90 watt adapter that works fine on United. However, it does not provide enough juice to my G73 for gaming, so I can only use it for watching movies and working. I cannot get even more modest notebooks to work on Luftansa as the outlets on those planes shut down even with the standard 90 watt power bricks and I've never owned a notebook wimpy (I mean low power) enough to work with a 75 watt brick.

    Good luck,
    Ira
