Hello, I have a g60vx and before some days, one of the two ram didn't work so I removed it and I ordered a new one. The laptop was working perfectly (except the ram) but after I put the screws back, the screen doesn't work! The strange thing is that the backlight of the screen works fine, sometimes (after I press the power button, there is a 50% chance that backlight will work) BUT I always get a black display. Computer and Windows load normally (I can hear the sound when windows log in).

Please help me as I need this laptop ASAP. I imported the laptop (I live in Europe) and I don't have warranty any more.

Whip the RAM out and try switching it around to start with if it only happened are you put the RAM in. Sounds as if its hardware error.

When you opened it up did you remove anything apart from the back panel?

I have done this with no results. I have tried to insert a secondary monitor and again no results (I hooked an HDMI, but before some days I changed the settings and made the external monitor to extend the main one). Should I try VGA? I tried the Fn+F8 combination, and because nothing was working I removed and placed again the CMOS battery, but again, nothing.
Could a magnet made any damage to it? Because when this problem happened a friend of me was holding a magnet and left it some time on the laptop. BTW, when it loaded windows, I insert a USB on it, and it played the sound which shows that it recognised. And I didn't touch the back panel

I have heard some strange things in my time but putting a magnet on a laptop is pretty much asking for trouble and I would not be suprised if it isn't the cause depending how powerful the magnet was.

Even so it could be something simple a wire that has come loose when you opened it up or your graphic drivers being buggered, do you have no visual output on an external screen? try HDMI and VGA.

If you have removed the CMOS battery and reset then you have obviously tried removing all power supply to the laptop so that idea is out of the window.

If you have no visual output at all but everything else works it sounds like the GPU, could be a hardware issue could be software. Was the magnet where the GPU is located??

To be honest, I couldn't identify where the GPU is. Under the keyboard, the only chip I found which could be the GPU, is an Intel chip which means that is not the GPU (as it is Nvidia). Where the GPU is located in this laptop? Also,I hooked up a VGA to external monitor and I got random colours on it. Do I have a messed motherboard now or if I flash the BIOS again do I have any chance to get it working?

EDIT: I just realised that the GPU is MXM and not soldered on the motherboard, so yes the magnet was near the GPU. So, is there a chance to work after a bios flashing?

There is a chance you can reflash the VBIOS if you can find the ROM file and bring it back to normal functioning. I'm not sure though, you may have damaged it irreparably. You can look for a replacement video card on ebay or the like. Any 260m from a g51 or g60 will work (but not g72 since it's a different size).

Ok, I have found a ROM file which is for 260M GTX and I will try to flash it later. I have searched for replacement video card on ebay but it's very expensive (about 450 dollars)

Ok, I tried to reflash the GPU with nvflash but for an unknown reason (because I cannot see it) it doesn't proceed. Does anybody have an idea on how to reflash the GPU? Also, could it be the motherboard and not the GPU? Is there any way to reflash the BIOS from DOS? I'm asking because the file's extension which I get from ASUS site is 205. Is there a chance to have a faulty motherboard instead of a faulty GPU?

Maybe the VBIOS file isn't the right one for your card. Keep in mind that flashing the VBIOS with the card in its current condition may render it useless, I have no idea what you damaged with the magnet. However it could bring it back to life - it's all or nothing really.

To flash the system BIOS you should really be doing it from Easy Flash in the BIOS setup menu (from a FAT formatted USB stick - not from NTFS), or with DOS. You can just rename the file to have a .rom extension if you insist on using winflash.

There is no reason in your situation to flash the system BIOS. It is a problem with the video card.

Ok, my problems are greater now. I was able to read the GPU using nvflash so I think that the GPU is working (I checked the rom with a hex editor). My new problem is that I was trying to flash BIOS and while the flash started but I didn't have a battery and power cord was accidentally got out so is there any solution that bad flash? Also, where can I find the motherboard of G60VX in a good price?

You flashed w/o having the battery in?!

You can always check ebay, asusparts.eu or get a used G60VXon the cheap.

    Or get a newer model

You can blind flash the VBIOS, just put the command for flashing the vbios in an autoexec.bat file.

OK, I have done something VERY bad. While I was blind flashing the GPU, I didn't know that it didn't finished, so I pressed the power button, because I though it finished the flashing. But now laptop doesn't POST which means bad flash. Is there ANY way to reflash the GPU? I will borrow another G60VX if it is necessary.

How are you sure it doesn't POST? You get no hard drive activity after a few seconds?

If you have a bad VBIOS flash you should be able to get it to boot from a cdrom eventually by hitting esc and then hitting the down arrows and enter to get it to select the CD-Rom from the boot menu. You just have to get the right number of down arrows and the timing right. You might be able to remove the hard drive(s) and boot from the CD-ROM that way if it was in your boot order after the HDD.

Putting your dead GPU in another G60Vx is not going to do anything different except you would be able to manually set the boot order to get it to boot off the CD first. That's a whole lot of trouble for something you can get done yourself through trial and error.

when it proceeds to POST, G60Vx makes a sound like BOOM but I cannot hear it. I tried to go to the boot list but with no result.

Ok, can you please give me a link for a spi programmer to flash my GPU?
