Runs diablo 3 at high settings just fine, without laptop cooler under its like 80s-90 F, with cooler under mostly
    Stays at 70s.

Notice a huge difference w/ notepal u2 positioned right under gpu fan openings blowing air to it. Both cpu n gpu overclocked getting.. 50-60fps throughout

I actually put some copper heatsink around my gpu and it drop my temp dramatically by 10c°.

My G60Vx turned out pretty well despite it being a first effort on a gamer laptop.
An old Kenwood 6x9 car speaker grill ended up looking awesome to replace the ridiculous non-functional resin circle, which I cut out, keeping the chrome-look ring intact (LUCKILY). I painted the fan housing to make it nondescript through the new grill, re-pasted CPU (IC7), and re-padded the GPU heatsink w/Phobya Ultra 5W/mk 1mm.
I realize this thread is for the newer model RoG series w/Intel i5 chipsets (NICE!), but since the bottom plates are almost identical, I'm posting just a couple of pics here, hope you don't mind, just in case somebody else wants a confidence-builder (seriously, this was actually my very first lappie mod).
Thanks go out to user C4RN1 for his EXCELLENT post (especially his pics) on this 'notebookreview' post.

kronik, yours is 'the kronik', you know it. That is the best internal mod of this type I've seen in my online research for DIY's on this project.
Congrats, esp. on the little heatsinks--those are uber-fine.
After one of my notebook cooling pad fans froze up, I made the awesome mistake of leaving mine on without the cooling pad at all, and mine slid right back into overheating again.
In fact, I'm sure it's right on the verge of completely locking up that graphics card, because I get what appear to be ASCII characters during BOOT sequence...which is a first for me on any type of PC.
I went back to Amazon and got some ICD7, and figure I'll try kronik's mini-GPU heatsinks, too, since I previously bought a few to try them out in Linksys WRT54G routers I wanted to keep from overheating after upgrading them to DD-WRT.
I've read through this thread, but didn't see any mention of this, so forgive me if there was already, but Amazon sells tons of these as 'Raspberry Pi' sinks, link here.
I'm SUCH a newb that I had to read an Amazon review on the ICD7 to get some (common) sense on how to soften the stuff enough to transfer it, it's so much harder to work with than Arctic Silver.
I abandoned another idiotic idea I had to cut slots into the side of the G60Vx's fan, and let [what would've been incredibly HOT] air vent out into, around, and under the GPU itself, and am currently working on 'Phase Two' of my mod on this RoG, which is just a rectangular piece cut out directly OVER the GPU, bending up the same Kenwood grill to match that cutout (this has been hellish at best for me, since I lost most of the feeling in both hands due to carpal tunnel years ago...hmmm...wonder why?).
Pics submitted, BTW, but again, this is 'in progress', and could end up being just ideas for someone else, since mine obviously overheated again due to leaving it on w/o the cooling pad (once!).
'Phase Three', for me, will be going back in one more time and putting a tiny, custom-made heatsink/fan inside between the GPU and the front of the lappie (wiring it to the wireless switch, and to the main fan)...hoping that gets the thing down to where I can use it without a cooling pad...
Oh--and I went out and bought a Seagate 1TB Hybrid HD that I intend to try in it.

The only problem with adding ramsinks is that they need an air path to work, the air must enter the case, pass over the ramsinks and leave some other way than the heatsink fins.

If you do it on a fairly closed system they just increase the thermal capacity of the system which may cause it to run hotter over longer sustained loads.

Nice job on the cooling mod, but don't forget to modify the pwm wire from the fan. Modifying the pwm wire will make the fan run at max, though your temps will drastically drop.

I don't know if you saw it, it's a bit further down on that same thread.
