Is it possible? The systems both look completely identical aside from the mini LCD screen on the palmrest of the G71G.

Well, the main reason why I want to do this is so I can have that mini screen on my G71GX. It's really cool looking, and I want it. Thing is, would it have the connector on the mainboard? Mine is a G71GX so it does not have the mini LCD.

You're best bet is to crack yours open and check, you never know if one revision will have it or another will not.

Yeah sure. I'll have a look.

What connector would I be looking for again? If I'm lucky, it'll be like one of those HP laptops without a backlit keyboard, but has the backlit connector still on the mainboard.

Haven't seen it myself, but it's likely a standard small, flat ribbon cable, similar to what you see that bridges daughter boards or trackpads to the main board.
