I hope this is the right place to post this. Please excuse my ignorance.

Ok here's what is happening. My laptop normally works fine. Today I plugged it in but pressing the power button didn't do anything. I started to press it repeatedly and it eventually came on and said windows didn't' shutdown properly, safe mode? etc. I start normally and everything runs normal but every time I try to start it up again it does the same thing but eventually turns on.
The other problem is that when I close the lid (It's set to do nothing in power settings) the power cuts off and the far left power led (the bulb one) blinks for a while and then stops. Sometimes it asks me to checkdisk on startup.

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Maybe you are in the wrong power profile for your lid setting, if it's blinking for a while and then stopping it sounds like it could be hibernating. Check all of your power profiles.

    Thanks for the reply
I have hibernate disabled and. Also when I turn the computer back on I get the 'windows didn't shutdown properly' screen.
