Is it possible to change the graphics card in the G72 to something better. Not that it needs a new one just thinking down the road.

Only if Asus releases something better. Their MXM slot is not standard, so only another Asus GPU will fit.

    That sucks.

Would they sell a mobile one to just buy?

    I very much doubt that.

In my book, if it doesn't follow all the basic standards of MXM, it's not MXM.

Since it is essentially a reversed MXM card, we could just reverse the letters to refer to the Asus cards...

... or the OP could just be happy with what he has. The GTX 260m is only a little bit slower than the GTX 280m. The GTX 260m is a beast of a card and handles pretty much every game I throw at it with High or Very High settings in my games. The only thing holding maybe me maxing out certain games (GTA 4, etc.) is the CPU, which I'll update later...

I'm happy with the card now. I am just looking towards the future.

Wonder how hard it is to change the CPU.

You'll probably be buying a new laptop before you try replacing the GPU...if its even possible given the non-standard nature of the beast...

Do you think the ATI5870 from a dead G73 would work in the G72 (assuming the G73 isn't dead because of the GPU)?

    Cheers,

The first step would be to see if the G73 and G72 cards are physically the same shape; there is a good chance they are not. If they are, you would need to see if your BIOS supports the new graphics card; if not, you would need to mod the BIOS to accept it - this can be done with the right tools :)
