On OC.n i post some stuff and got a few answer but this seams like the place to be. (i am replacing all the Thermal past with some band new AS5 here in about a week once i get it)
I have the g72 05 from bb. I want to make it run faster and cooler, 1st idea SSD. I want one and i think i am going to get a 128 for about 240. Should run a lot faster on boot and exe stuff. (yes/no reasons and or links)
CPU, right now it has a p8700 maybe over clock it and drop voltage? IDK anything about how or what to do in that aspect but i found some cheap intel T9600 (would like a T9900... that would be epic). Can i do less voltage can have it run cooler and up the Mhz? (yes/no experince and how to do it or where a link on it Thanks!)
GPU, I read a little about it and have been trying to figure out two things, one: can u get a 5870 fromt he g73 and put it in there? (if yes links and maybe anidea on where to buy and what not, how to do it too???) Second: People said you can clock the gtx 260m to higher core/mem speeds and down the voltage... yes/no??? People also say u can flash the bios so it stays liek that and runs better... can i get a link because very time some one brings it up in a thred here people have not answering and i am lost! I would like to flash the bios to run cooler and better! (links and or how to's or a copy of bio's and how to flash it, would be amazing!)
Screen, I was wondering can i put in a 1080P lcd in here and if so for under 200$ and maybe a link and a guide on how to do it?
Blueray, herd it can be done and if so maybe a link to a thred.
Ram herd u can put in 12gb ram ... how? the box says 8 gb ... new bios or it just works @ 3x4gb ram???
I know this is a hell of a lot but i have been trooling the google and a few forms and cant find all that much of difinitive answers to my questions and this comunity specifys on this! SO i am hoping to get all my stuff donz!!! Thanks you guys for your time!!! + rep to all who answer questions and get me in a thred with specific answers or a link on how to or a explination why it wont work or just getting me in the right direction!

Hey Jackeduphard: A lot of your questions are good questions, but I think you'll have more luck finding the long (and detailed) threads specific to each issue using the search function. I think it is unlikely that people will go through the trouble of finding these links for you, when they're publicly available.
Sure, some people will, but generally speaking, a screen replacement is as easy as finding a disassembly guide and following it (and reversing the process).
As for ram, well, I'm pretty sure the search function (or google) will be your best friend there too.
You'll be able to find answers to these (and other questions) quite easily, if you try a few simple searches, either internally, or using google. Or using google internally (but you may want to familiarize yourself with basic search before trying advanced functions). For keywords, you could try "Advantages of SSD", or "Upgrading a processor" or "Underclocking a p8700".
Good luck though! -
thanks for the idea, and i have been the last 2 days no joke. But I can not really find any answers to the questions just people asking the same question, the disasembly is not the main hard part but knowing that if i put screen x in the case it will take the 1080p and work u know? i have not gotten any answer or seen an answer for that online... i woudl not ask if i had not done my trolling before hand unless i was real busy and had no idea. In this instance it is not the case. Thanks!

Would this work with the g72 screen:

Here's one about the CPU upgrade, and another about the SSD change. A search for "g72 screen upgrade" had this as it's third result.
I'm not sure you're qualified to be on the internet, if you're having trouble with this. No offense meant, I'm just saying that some simple internet skills are required to successfully navigate the web. -
I don't think over clocking but lowering the voltage would work. Unless the default voltage is already over kill. I over clock my desktop quite a fair bit, 2.4ghz to 3.6ghz to be exact
but i have to raise the voltage instead of lowering it. It would be possible to overclock a little and remain with the same voltage. Because if you lower your voltage, then raise your clocks, you would probably loose stability. And windows would lock up easily. Or worst, does not get to post. As for rams you could always see if a friend has them then just pop it in just to test
Trial and error is how i usually learn. But i do admit at times trial and error can really screw things up really bad... All the best in your project.

Why not think about getting an X9100? They sell for less than a T9900 on ebay and are a better processor because they have an unlocked multiplier. Many users with the help of ThrottleStop, are running these reliably at 3.5 GHz to 3.6 GHz and benching them at 4.0 GHz and a little beyond. You can't do that with a T9900.

I love these animated links. Can I have one to a G72 ATI 5870 GPU upgrade?
Cheers,
G72, Some ideas on how to make it run better.
