    Hi everyone,

I've had the G72GX for a year now.... but recently when I try to play games, the laptop overheats incredibly fast. 5-10 minutes in any 3D game and I 99c. My laptop immediately shuts off the GPU and games run at about 4FPS. Once the GPU gets down to around 90c, it turns back on again.

The only game I didn't have a problem with was portal 2. It had a laptop mode where it limited the FPS and the GPU never got hotter than 85c. I wish every game had something like that...

Im wondering what my options are. The vent doesn't look dusty at all. It's idling at 63c (the GPU). I'm testing it using a windows 7 gadget.

None of the laptop coolers at my local best buy do ANYTHING. Ideas? I'd appreciate any advice at all. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to apply NEW THERMAL PASTE.....
I never done it to a GPU, so I can't help you out with that, maybe someone here can guide you.

Also you might want to check the fan to see if it's working properly.

Yeah definitely check to make sure the fan is actually working and not making bad grinding or ticking sounds.

Also make sure your fan and vent area are free of dust, clean it with a can of compressed air if necessary. Just because it doesn't *look* dusty doesn't mean there isn't a buildup of dust there.
