I've had a lot of problems the past 24hrs with my computer so I'll start at the beginning.

I came home and found my laptop turned off. When i tried to turn it on the screen kept dimming and it powered off once it got to the log in screen.

Through trial and error it seems like it was a combination of the battery and power cord failing. When I had them both plugged in I'd get to the welcome screen and it'd shut off. I noticed that the battery LED was flashing. I took out the battery and was unable to get the laptop to power on at all.

I grabbed a spare power cord and hooked it up with the battery. Again, I had my original problem. I then removed the battery and noticed that the battery LED stopped flashing. I was then able to power up the computer and go about my normal daily activities.

I ordered another battery because that seems like the issue, and I may order another replacement power cord eventually, as the one I'm using has a brick about half the size of the original, not sure if it matters.

I thought I had all my problems figured out, until I started to play a game. The game was world of warcraft on "good" graphics settings. After about 1-10 minutes the computer would completely shut off. I assumed it may be a temp issue so I took the comp apart, cleaned the fan, reapplied more thermal paste and put it back together.

Once I had all this done my temps were lower so I decided to try the game again in windowed mode so I could view the temps. (As a side note I ran a stress test that cause the cpu, gpu, and mobo temps to reach 70c and it never shut off).

As I'm playin in windowed mode graphics on low setting and resolution turned down the computer still shuts off on me. And it only happens when playing WoW. ( I haven't tried other games yet).

So basically my problem is I have my laptop plugged in, without the battery and the computer shuts off while I'm playing a game. I have a new battery on the way, but I'd like to fix this problem if by chance it's not the battery being out that's causing it to crash.

I've tried updating the graphics and the vbios with no luck.

You say the power brick you're using now is half the size of the original one. Perhaps the power brick is unable to provide the watts the G72 requires at full load.

The power brick on a laptop is the same as a power supply in a desktop, and if it's rated for less watts than the system requires at full load, or if the rails are of low quality, then you're going to run into problems such as BSOD's, display driver crashes, shut downs, reboots, etc.

I would make sure to get a stock replacement power brick before jumping to conclusions.

Both bricks are 19v, the old cord is 7-8A where the one i'm using now is 3.95A. Would that be what's causing it and will it still give me an issue even when I get my new battery?

Yes, 19V*7A =133W, 19V*3.5V=75W, your new adapter can't give the right amount of juice to your laptop.

The voltages and amperages you gave were the ones written on the adapter right?

Even if you don't use the battery, i doubt that 75W will be enough to properly power the laptop when the laptop is under full load.

yea, the adapter i'm using now as a temp is a toshiba adapter. It keeps me powered, but once i start gaming my computer basically curls up in a ball and says no.

Yep, the 75W adapter can't deliver enough power.
