Hey all, I searched the forums and found a closed thread about adding a second HDD to the G72gx and people were saying it boosted internal temps as much as 10C!

Well, I want to put in a 64GB SSD and keep in a 500GB HDD for storage. Because SSD's run cool, would it be better to put the SSD in the back slot? Is there a way in windows 7 to spin down the HDD when not in use?

Right after this post I'm going to see if I can find any tips on drilling some ventilation holes for better cooling. Coming from a P-7805u, the G72gx should be a lot more comfortable to game with stock, but every little bit helps :)

SSD drives do run much cooler in temp then a HDD. It really doesnt matter which sata port you put it in as long as you get in your BIOS and assign the new SSD as your primary boot drive. I dont think there is a way to have windows spin down a hard drive while it's not being use when you're still using the comptuer. You can have it turn it off if the computer has been idle for a while.

I think it's an air flow issue - bad ventilation holes will mess up your air flow (just like in a case), so be careful.
