So I got my laptop back. Seems my motherboard died. Everything is up and running fine. Once I got it back I re-pasted with AS5. I know there are crap load of threads saying which is better or prefered, ICD7 vs AS5, but I had a tube of AS5 sitting here for a while now, and I didn't much care if it did or didn't get lower temps than ICD7.

So here's my baseline, playing CODMW2(max settings) for an hour or more. Using MSI Afterburner to monitor temps. No OC on GPU.

    Pre-AS5:
    Idle: 62-63c, Peak: 98-99C

    Immediately after AS5:
    Idle: 57-58C, Peak: 84-85C

    Cured AS5:
    Idle: 54-55C, Peak: 76-77C

As you can see, quite a substantial drop in temps. The first time I took it apart I noticed how bad the original paste was. Then when I got it back from repair, it had that generic white stuff on it, which was done right, but I have no idea what it was.

Another thing to note is I'm now using an SSD as my main drive, not sure if that helps drop temps overall, but it is a nice addition ;)

Congrats, I did the same as you basically for the same reasons, I used AS5 and I can't complain with the results.
