Do I need to install the ATI Mobility driver or are the regular ones just fine? Reason being is the latest ATI mobility is 10.3 and the latest 5xx series driver is the 10.4 preview drivers.

I installed 10.3, but some people were reporting issues.

Also you can configure rendering settings with it.

Ask yourself this, why would they go through the trouble of separating them if they were the same. :)

I'm running the 10.4 preview drivers because they fixed battlefield bad company 2 slow loading issues. I did have to mod the .inf to get them to work, but I've been very happy with them.

    Tell me more.

I have an SSD, but I know how fast it should load and it's just a bit slower than I would have expected.

What did you do to .Inf?

First thing is to run the installer. That will put the drivers in a directory like C:\AMD\ATI_Catalyst_10.4_Preview_Win7_Vista_Apr12\

Next Download the two .infs that I attached to this post (these are for 64bit OSes).

Now go into the folder C:\AMD\ATI_Catalyst_10.4_Preview_Win7_Vista_Apr12\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF and replaced the two infs.

Go into device manager and right click the 5870 and select update driver software. Select browse my computer for driver software, let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, have disk, browse to C:\AMD\ATI_Catalyst_10.4_Preview_Win7_Vista_Apr12\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF (with the .infs in it) and select one of them. Then select 5870 and hit ok. Windows should install the drivers without any issues.

This took my BC 2 load times down from 20-30 seconds to 7-8 seconds.

For an example of what I did to the infs, see this post on another forum.

Yeah I'm running an indilinx controller ssd and BFBC2 loads slower than I would expect, but it's still only like 15-20 secs

yes I'm running an intel x-18m G1 and BC2 was terribly slow. Did the 10.4 previews and now in 7-8 seconds I'm in the map causing havoc...

    Kalim,
You can wait until the 10.4s come out, but I figured I'd beta test the drivers first...

I'll wait for the officials (the 10.3 previews were havoc) but thanks for the notice.

Yeah, I don't care for unfinished drivers. That doesn't mean that I will install the 10.4's the day they become official. Right now I'm in no hurry and the 9.12's are doing what I need them to do. I will likely wait awhile and see what happens over the next couple of months, perhaps longer, and then pick from the top of the litter. :)

I used 10.3 preview no problems with no modding.

I have had the 8.74 for days now with no problems or modding as well (being called 10.6alpha in some places)
