Not exactly sure, I'm sure you'll find the answers on XOTICPC forums though.

nice to see a good mod, but it gets the ball rolling for really unnecessary mods that are gotti and ruin the look of the G Series. Reminds me of people supping Honda Civics to street racing rigs. Fast and The Furious ruined car modification FOREVER.

PS: This mod is cool, but would hate to see ad ones. (Shields eyes)

So, I saw this mod and thought "hey cool! I'm gonna see how much it is!"
Can't find it for sale anywhere. I'm pretty sure it's a feature they offer only in laptops that they sell. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I did some digging, and I think I have found the equivalant. By the look of the pics of the afterburner mod, I believe it is a neon tube mod. They can be purchased on ebay for very cheap. I found a set of two 2" neon tubes that are powered by an optional transformer that takes two AA batteries. That's 3 volts. The operating voltage of the leds on the g series is 3-5 volts, roughly. I tested it with a meter. So, I think that the tubes can be powered directly by the laptop's led power source. Recently, I ordered some 3-5 volt blue leds for a mod I did. They worked great- nice and bright. I wired them into the light bar control, so I could turn them off with the stock light control button. But, I wanted something a little less cobbled together, so I removed the mod. After seeing this post and finding the lights to do it, I will be ordering the parts in a few days. I will post pics when it is finished (which will be soon), along with a description on how I did it. This is simply a method of us having that afterburner style mod, without having to buy it as a package deal in a new laptop- I am in no way trying to outdo or undercut the site that came up with the mod. Perhaps I didn't look hard enough on the site, and maybe they do sell it by itself. But $12.99 for a pair of 2" long neon tubes is a pretty good price, especially if they will just wire right in. I will know more when they get here.

Yes, I checked, Xoticpc only does their light mods on laptops they sell themselves. They won't do it on a laptop they didn't sell due to warranty issues, etc. I was interested in the the lights in the rear air vents on the G73. It can't be terribly difficult to wire something up with a few LEDs. I'll be interested to see what you come up with on your mod.
