Hey,
I finally bit the bullet and updated my bios and vbios (all succesful) so that I could update my gfx driver with no GSOD(I was previously getting gsod after updating the gfx driver). So I went to update the Mobile 5870 driver and during installation this beautiful bsod appeared![]()
![]()
So I powered down, and same thing happened on a normal boot. So I went to safe mode and rolled back the driver, seemed fine until the bsod appeared again![]()
Any help?
Thanks in advanced!

I have seen quite a few BSOD when updating recent ATI graphical drivers but as you have just flashed your VBIOS its most likely just that.
Uninstall all ATI software CCC the lot and use a Registry cleaner or Driver cleaner to completely clean out all the ATI system files.
Restart. This will leave you with just a standard vga adapter.
Download the latest 11.5b mobile version and run the installation until it says to restart and do so and you should be fine. -
Thanks for the help,
Im gonna try that now.
Thanks!
I tried to boot into safe mode and its just boots into a black screen with a mouse. I cant access anything it seems... any help? -
Did your flash complete successfully? BIOS and Vbios?
Why cant you get into windows is the boot sector damaged? try running statup repair.
That BSOD that you have got is a hardware error. Have you changed anything inside recently? Although those error codes are about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. -
I flash my bios and vbios successfully I didnt have any problems until I tried to update my ati driver. I just now got into system repair and I tried to run a repair and it said no problems were found. Ive done no hardware changes at all. Should I try and roll back to an earlier time? Thanks for the help man!

Well its strange that you cannot get in via safe mode. You can try to roll back windows to an earlier time I just hate doing that personally as when I have done it in the past it runs like a pile of crap and everything seems unhappy from that point onwards. I go for a fix or a factory reset normally.
Take out the Battery and AC adapter and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge it and then put it all back together and see if that works.
The last time I had a similiar issue to what your having was when I repasted and I got a BSOD while updating to 11.4 during setup and I had to switch my RAM around and whip the HDD's out to get it to boot into windows because it just kept BSOD after the startup screen. But I think my laptop is a strange monster of a thing.
If you can get into windows just do as I said earlier and wipe out the old driver, clean and then restart. -
The BSOD is the stock driver on the new vBIOS. What surprises me is that you cannot boot to safe mode.
You can try booting with F8 and select "Use last known good config" and then immediately go for the AMD Express Uninstall. -
Hey,
I tried using the last known config option and I still end up with a black screen and a cursor.
I tried removing the battery and all that and it still yielded the same results
Im gonna download ubuntu and boot from that so I can back up my files and re-install windows, do you think thats the best option? -
Well if you are not gonna lose anything do it. Personally I never complain about a factory reset once in a while apart from getting all the drivers and settings back to normal.
Cleans out all of the crap at least. -
if i go for a re-install would having an update BIOS and vBios matter?
thanks again for all the help guys. -
-
Awesome,
I am almost done backing up now, So just to make sure I dont screw anything up,
I am going to back up re-install windows all on the updated bios and vbios I already did, then after installing windows delete the old drivers and install the new ones.
Thanks! -
Should sort it
post how you get on.

I would recommend a fresh install vs a factory install. The factory install has the stock drivers preinstalled, and that's causing your lockup issue.
-
surely people dont still use the factory factory reset??
My apologies if you have done, listen to Chastity - I have my own factory partition with the latest drivers dont use the stock one if you can although you might be alright just getting into windows to update the driver. Bloooooooatware alert. -
Hey,
I just finished installing Windows 7, and the new drivers. Thank you Dallers for your help and thanks Chastity for the tips.
Ubuntu is sure handy, glad all this is over.
Thanks! -
Ay up fella good work
Horrid feeling when things dont work out but at least your spanking new now and with the latest BIOS.
