Hi, some help would be good.
My battery reads plugged in, charging on the system tray but the charge remains at 5%. The moment I take out the AC the computer turns off. I can run the computer on AC without the battery.
Is the battery dead? What should I do next? RMA?
Thank you.

The default Hibernation happens when the battery reaches 5 percent, which is considered the critical battery state. So, it is understandable that at 5 percent the computer would "turn off".
To get an idea of the amount of time it takes to charge a battery from near critical, see this link here.
You should only discharge the battery that low when you want to calibrate the battery, running the battery low all the time shortens the battery's life. -
Actually I wasn't trying to discharge the battery. AC was plugged in but the battery kept draining. I was using it for gaming and the battery was probably fully charged but over a period of 90 min it drained all the way to 5% even though AC was plugged in all the time.

the same thing happened to my good old W3V. The battery charging light is constantly on and it indicates that the battery is charging, but it always stays at 4% charged no matter how long it stays plugged in. I had 2 batteries and the first one died after 1.5 year and the second on died within a year.
I guess I shouldn't have let the battery drain to 4%, but oh well.
If you bought your laptop for less than a year, RMA it asap! Asus warranty only covers battery for 1 year (double check on that, but I think this is still true). -
Get the HWMonitor from here:
CPUID HWMonitor
At the bottom of the program window look at the "Designed Capacity" and "Full Charge Capacity" to determine how much your battery is degraded/dead.
