I'm running folding @ home on my g73 and I notice that the cpu downclocks with load. 0% 3.2Ghz, 50% 2Ghz, 85% 1.8Ghz Whats up with that? :(

I think its weird since my dv7 doesnt downclock with load.

The i7 has a turbo mode that only overclocks when under certain loads. 3.2Ghz with 1 core, 2Ghz with 2, and 1.8ghz with 4. Considering your Stock speed is 1.8 Thats is what I would expect under high loads on all 4 cores.

Did you use multicore apps on the DV7? (Multithreaded F@H?)

than why is it 1.8ghz on all cores currently? using hwinfo32.

I run F@H -SMP on the dv7 as well. and I see just like it is all cores the same speed that why I found it weird.

EDIT I should note that the dv7 is set to use 50% cpu.

Maybe you should re-read what he posted. The reason for what you are asking is clearly stated already.

I get what hes saying, but I mean if what he says is true why does core 0 to 3 run 1.8. shouldnt it be core 0 3.2Ghz and core 1 to 3 be 1.8ghz?

If you are only using a single core then yes. But if you are using all 3, even if its only to 50%, then they will all downclock.

Fire up CPU-Z and watch it change the multiplier as you put different loads on the cores. (In the Task Manager, right click on a process, say for F@H that is using the CPU. Then click Set Affinity and uncheck all but 1 core, see what happens, then select, 2, 3, etc.

Or there are other apps and tools to run to see it in action.
