    hi

my DVD/BD-ROM (MATA***** BD-CMB UJ141AS) drive simply disappeared.
i tried uninstall/reinstall but it cannot reintall the driver successfully, it says.

is it a registry key problem or hardware?

i can btw still boot by the Windows installation DVD, but thats all.

    ASUS G73JH-A2
    Windows Ultimate x64

    please help.
    thanks

for some reason the optical drive name doesn't seem to appear here in full, as you might have noticed!

Have you tried re-seating the drive?

    hey, thanks for your reply.

no i didnt try reseating the drive. i wouldnt either because im not too sure about this sort of things.

in my first post i mentioned that i can still run/install window by booting,
doesnt it mean that the physical drive is connected?

    thanks

Well it could be badly seated and not work properly in all cases. That is the first thing i would try. Flip the laptop, open the bottom panel and on the right side, you'll notice a screw holding the optical drive. Remove the screw, slide the drive out, inspect the connection and then reseat it if everything looks fine.

Check this video up to 0:37 BTOtech.com | G73Jh & G73Jw & G73Sw Disassembly Take Apart G73 g73jw service manual - YouTube. You don't need to go farther into the disassembly. This will in no way void your warranty either. Of course, do this with the battery removed and the laptop unplugged.

Thanks for explaining. I will try this out after I am sure about a couple of other issues I have with G73jh. I will post these separately now.
If you could please check this and give me your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. I need to know about these other problems I just mentioned, as it is about the warranty.
