I am in need for some advice. I used to have the problem while playing Battlefield BC2, while i was gaming the game just freezed (screen freezed, and a terrible sound-freeze), and I had no other choice but to do a hard reboot. But somehow I got that problem fixed. But recently it started to happen again while playing Medal of Honor, so I updated my audio drivers (uninstalled all creative/realtek, reboot, run ccleaner/driver sweeper, reboot, installed realtek/creative from cd,reboot, installed the latest 2.54realtek drivers, reboot, reboot), but that was no use. Now I just finished a 5min Call of Duty-World at War, and the same thing happened there.

So did anyone else have this problem, and was able to fix it?
    Any ideas are welcome ^.^

    Shockie,

I had the same thing, over and over again. I was unable to get it to stop so I RMA's back to ASUS. Hopefully you get yours sorted out.

    Good Luck

Thx for the hint, but the problem is i already had this one installed. To make sure though, I reinstalled the hotfix. But honestly I dont think its a windows problem. Its specific to those 2 games (so far). Ive played over 30 hours of Just Cause, and never did it freeze, neighter with Modern Warfare 2, or any game you could think off, except World at War and Medal of Honor.
Open for other suggestions though ;)

I would start disabling other processes until you find the culprit. For example, CoreTemp on my desktop would occasionally cause crashes with Dragon Age / nVidia drivers. So if you are running monitoring or FPS apps while gaming, turn them off. These apps create hooks into the drivers to gather info, and can cause hangs.

If no success with that idea, try turning off the AntiVirus software.

Nop, not playin overclocked, stock clocks with the 93vBios, bios 211, latest CCC. Its also a negative on the reinstallation of that windows7 hotfix. Just froze again playing World at War. Hard reboot was the only sollution.

Allright thx chas, will try that right away. Wouldn't mind to much about an antivirus, since i don't have one :p. Don't need it since my router is blocking most of those.

At this stage with hard freezes, I blame sound drivers more than anything else.

Time to uninstall everything sound related, then install only Realtek. Just to eliminate the Creative lockup issue as possible cause.

Well ive tried all of that, and i used to get freezes on BF BC2 cause of that. Now however they seemed to have disappeared, so I'm assuming my audio drivers are fixed. However Chastity made a good point there, that Temp-reading programns might be the cause of my freezes. It does indeed take info from the CPU while under load, and this might cause it to haywire, so i disabled Core Temp, and have been playin for 20 minutes now without freeze. Will report back if ive done some more ''testing'' ^^.

So far so good ^^, that a little program like Temp Core could do so much damage, who couldv known
However I only tested World at War for half an hour, and Medal of Honor for 15 minutes. It could be luck that my lappy didnt freeze, so to make sure ill be doing some more of that testing ;)

Owkey, to bad I got my hopes up for this, cause now I've let myself down :p. The lappy froze 2ce in 10 minutes. Uninstalling Creative again, lets see what that gives us.

Edit: After uninstalling the creative crap, and playin 10 mins of WaW, it freezed AGAIN..

    Best of Luck.

I was also getting green artifacts when gaming. I'm assuming that was the card or the memory saying something wasn't right. Let me know if you figure it out.

The thing is i didn't get those green artifacts. All my lappy did was freeze the image and sound. Its like you were looking at a fullscreen picture of the game, and listening to a really really monotone song.

schockie, I also bought mine in a belgian shop

and i also have freezes sometimes.

in stead of RMA-ing it, and waiting for more than a month to get it back,

i would suggest opening it ourselves and putting thermal paste on the core ourselves to make for better cooling,

because it really isn't a software problem...

I've been there. Already did it in may. Runs cool at a 82C max. Btw, Just cause 2 runs at higher temps than both of these games, and that doesnt freeze. So pretty sure its not the thermal paste eighter. Thx for the input though.

Here you can see the video would freeze, audio would continue and then it would kick back in.

    <embed width='600' height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid32.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fd12%2Fcuban11182%2FVIDEO0007.mp4">

Here are the green artifacts. Sorry for the quality of the image, the resolution on my phone was set to real low.

Try playing on battery power. Unplug power adapter and see if it freezes

skyneon, thanks for the advice, but it's at ASUS after being RMA'd. Question though, why would you unplug the power adaptor? What difference would that make.

I want to see if schockie can try that.

I am having same issue as in your video. I suspect power adapter is the problem.

Cuban, the vids are indeed strange, however thats not what im getting :p, my screen doesnt go black/green, it just freezes the image of that time. Like I said before its like watching a fullscreen image of a frame of the game, and a very irritating sound... I'll try and post a vid of it to clear things up. Ill try the batery mode, don't know what that would do though, only underclocks the video card. It could be that it has somethin do to with a bad driver-function in those particular games.

Yea mine did that too. You have to hardboot it right? Mine most of the time did like the videos I posted and about 2 times it what yours did. It was like a buzzing sound from the speakers or something. I was able to video one of those too. I'm uploading now to Photobucket. It's pretty similar although my screen would go black and then make the noise.

    *Edit*
Here it is. Ignore the sniffles, I had recently had nasal surgury when I was making the videos.

I did it at first with the HWMonitor running. After I had read what Chastity had said about programs like that running and pulling from the CPU and GPU while you are gaming I closed them. After I did a factory restore all I did was update my Catalyst versions and installed both those games. The videos you see were a result of that, totally stock (minus VBiOS, BIOS 211 and the Catalyst Drivers).

Like I said mine started the same way as yours and progressivy got worse. I'm hoping I get some sort of information this week on the status of my computer. It's funny that its spent more time at their facility than I actually owned it.

I'll make sure to keep you informed on what they replace. I'm hoping that we can figure it out, and it is software related. But who knows, it might be hardware.

G73JH is too sensitive and i believe a stupid small thing can make a lockup
few days ago i had some lockups too and do you know what was the problem... a program called COMMVIEW program for monitoring networks
that program switched my Atheros AR9285 Wireless drivers with COMMVIEW Atheros AR9285 and those drivers were making conflicts and i was getting a lot of lockups till i figure it out
from now one i know what to do if i get a lockup i would just restore my machine before the lockup....

To bad our voices are still not powerfull enough for them to reach Asus.
We are entitled to a decent support. We buy their best laptop, and we get the worst support for it. If anyone else has some ideas on how to fix my particular problem, besides going into battery mode, be good enough to post your thoughts here. Appreciate the efford going into these answers, thx :).
Btw, skyneon, taking out the battery is surely no solution. It may work, but if you run games on batterymode you would have a good 30 minutes of gameplay before you have to plug in again.

I did not say take the battery out, but the AC adapter and run the laptop on the battery. I know that is not a solution ether, but that is what happens with my laptop and I wanted to see if that happens to someone else so I know that is not a unique problem as it is now.

So if you do not mind to try to run a few games on battery and see if the freeze or not.

Ive just done the test on running games while on battery power aaannd.. they crashed. Just the same thing as while I was plugged in. It freezes within 10 minutes, and a hard reboot is needed. Its really bizare that its only with Call of Duty - World at war, and Medal of Honor 2010.... Any other games I've tested never ever froze like that... If the idea-crate is empty I think my only sollution is to do a clean reinstall...

Cause the thing is that I had it before with Bad Company 2, it didnt freeze at all, than I clean installed windows cause I needed it for some reason, but than when i installed BC2 again, it froze just like waw/moh now.. Bizarre thing is that BC2 doesnt crash now. Oh well, technology right?

Try shutting off the AI in CCC for those two games.

Also, have you ever updated your CCC Game Profiles?

Edit: I seem to be running on the 10.10, and that one doesnt have the AI function-switch. Ill install the 10.11 right now.
What exactly is it you mean with updating my ccc game profiles?

Edit2: Updated my ccc to 10.11, disabled the AI, made a desktop-shortcut for the profile with disabled AI. Dlosed all monitoring programs, started up WaW, and it did it again. Stupid game! its not cause its snowing outside, that you have to freeze my laptop...

Hello schockie, I've now the exactly same problem as you with NFS Hot Pursuit. It isn't always, but when it happens, the only option is to force shutdown in the power button...
