ALright so I have been running gpu-z while playing games to get a rough idea of how the computer holds up to sustained lengths of gaming. And i have noticed that the fan speed doesnt ever go over 30%??Temps are reaching 70-90c I would assume that the fan should be at 100% while gaming?Yes?No?

Is there anyway to control fan speed, or is this a normal occurance??

People on here are complaining about fan noise, but I never hear a thing. Its good I know, but at the same time I want to know that my computer is being cooled properly.

Normal. When I first posted about the new beta version of GPU-Z supporting the 5870m, I too noticed the fan sensor didn't work. When it came out of beta, the fan sensor was still not functioning. Prior to these versions, none of the sensors worked.

Your fan won't kick in above 30% until the temp is above 95c. I leave GPU-Z open in the background and check my temp and fan history after gaming for an hour. I've owned/gamed (mainly COD4 & BFBC2) on this machine for 2 months and have only had the fan kick in over 2-3 times. When it kicks in it goes straight to 100% and you'll hear it. I'll check my GPU-Z version tonight and post.

not sure about G73 but with the M17x (which shares the same cards..) the monitoring programs always display 30% for fan speed.. i believe there's a problem to read that info correctly.

GPUz also reports the GPU fan speed to also be 30% at all time with my ati mobility 4670. Even now after I had hardwired my fans so I can control em manually lol. I wouldn't worry about it. 70C-90C is pretty normal GPU gaming temp for most laptops. Unless you start getting over 100C regularly and driver crashes occur you have no real problems. I recommend simply checking your intake and exhaust vents of your cooling system regularly to make sure no blockages of dust occur.

I'm running GPU-Z version 0.4.3 and it does display fan speed changes from 30% to 100% when the GPU temp hits 96c. Just confirmed it.

i wouldn't trust those programs... fans can be heard when they are full on, and can be felt (hot air coming out) when they rotate slowly

Don't bother trying to figure out how to change fan settings. I did extensive amounts of research for the G51 when it was coming out and there are no programs out there that can change settings for laptops.

The only ways that it could be done was either through rewriting the BIOS (good luck....), somehow rewriting parts of the ACPI (I managed to get down to the code, but it seemed to be written in an extremely basic language not far above assembly), or switch to Linux.

I am using everest and it says its always on 30%. I can hear the speed change sometimes while gaming so I'm pretty sure that its wrong.

    Hi guys

I experience the same fans speed problem. GPU-z and AIDA shows 30% despite the heat load and temps, until the last hits around 95-98 deg. The the spins at 100% for 10-15 seconds.

So i was wondering if updating vBIOS and/or mobo BIOS actually changes the situation. I currently use stock BIOSes since had never had problems (GSOD, etc.)

And another thing, has any one noticed that latest mobility drivers are affecting temps and fans speed too? For example, with 11.4 i can hear GPU fan speed increase gradualy depending on temps, although hardware monitoring shows those 30%.

Would be nice to here some experienced people here.

    Thanks in advance
    SpuTnicK

The only program that accurately reports the fan speed is HWiNFO32. Not the fan% in the GPU section (still as non accurate as GPU-Z), but the fan RPM are rather accurate. 100% should amount to ~4500RPM

Bios 211 and 213 makes the fan rev up sooner than older versions.

    Wow, it does work. Thanks
At the moment HWiNFO32 reports about 3300RPM for GPU fan speed.

    I have an ASUS G73SW-BST6

I live in Brasil... so I have a MUCH BIGGER problem.... the warranty is valid only there in USA...

I opened my laptop, REPASTED, with Arctic Silver 5, did ALL things correctly, JUST TO FIND OUT THAT ----->>> THE GPU FAN WAS BLOCKED!!!!!!

acctually, I have the notebook for 3 months... and it was working FINE before... I used to play for hours, and a couple of times I checked the temperature, and it was FINE... like, 10 HOURS PLAYING it wouldn't go over 67, 70º C.....

NOW, all of a sudden, IT's GETTING 90 with 10 minutes playing... THE FAN SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING!!! WHY???? its NOT DUST, IM SURE! VERY SURE!...

NOW, here in BRASIL there ISN'T, simply, ISN'T anything that FITS this motherboard... NO COOLER FAN is compatible...

I think i'm gonna have to BUY a fan FROM USA... wait for like MONTHS...

    very, VERY disappointing...

You don't want your GPU core hitting 96C often, if it is the case you need to repaste with something good like IC7/24.

Like the others have pointed out ignore the 30% readings on most programs, use HWiNFO32/64 instead in pure sensor mode.

I FIXED!!!! OMG, I AM NINJA!!!!! NINJA JYRAIA!!!!

I cut off the center of the cooler ( leaving just the plastic/metal cover ) and repleaced with another center of another cooler ( a 7 YEARS OLD cooler from my old laptop!! heheheh )

I MADE A BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK, HAND ARTWORK, BEAUTIFUL!!!

The cables as thin as HAIR... I reconnect them, WELDING, in different combinations, to match the Asus cooler combinations...

NOW: My very very silent Asus startup with MAXIMUM COOLING, LOTS OF NOISE, like AN AIRPLANE!!! YEAHHHH!!!!!!!

    hehehe, 33º C in idle, and with 10 hours playing: 55º C!!!!!!!

    PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! YEAHHH BABY!!!
