Got a question for you guys.
Idle my tss0 temp is 60c. On furmark, my tss1 wil hit 104, tss0 is maxing around 89.
Is this normal or do would you guys suggest a repaste? I see people talking about badly seated thermal pads. Would that be an issue for me? The TSS0 seems so high to me, its making me worry.
-
89C is safe, you should worry when TSS0 hits 102C.
But if you want to do a thermal paste redo, then I suggest doing the following.
Buy some IC Diamond 7. When you use this, just put a thin layer. Like a pea size and then spread it, no more.
Watch the video from BTOTech on how to dissassemble.
Get a bunch of containers and just throw a piece of paper in the container with a label to tell you which part of the laptop it goes to.
- What I do is slowly take out the screws and keep the screws together in their own separate container with a label
- Screws from bottom of Notebook
- Screws for DVD Drive (2 on the left side and one near the memory modules
- Screws around ram. (There are 3, 2 on each side of ram and one further away).
- Screws for HDD. (2 for each HDD and 1 screw under each HDD).
- Screws for Battery (There are 2)
- Screws for under keyboard (Believe there are 5).
- Screws for screen (3 on each side. And on each side one screw to hold the top of notebook on, so 8 in total).
- Screws for Motherboard
- Screws for fans
That's what I do. This makes sure you don't lose any screw and you know where all the screws go so you don't mismatch etc. This also ensures you know where to look to put screws in, making sure you put it back together completely with no missing or extra screw. -
You dont need to label so much, there are 4 kinds of screws (4 little ones from battery and OD bays, 6 long ones from screen, 6 long narrower ones from fans and a bunch of regular ones), just make sure you put them seperately and youll be fine just following the dissasembly guide on youtube.

Is there a disassembly guide for the G73 on lubetube? I would think it would be more interesting.

That's what ziddy meant by the BTOTech vid. Anyways here's the link for the video on youtube.

EDIT: Helps a lot to have a set of small screwdrivers like the ones used in the video. At this point i don't think it's necessary to say it but i'll say it just to be safe: don't use magnetized screwdrivers. -
-
I used magnetized scrwedrivers and didn't have any problems. They're quite useful for when you drop a screw in in a gap.
I doubt they're powerful enough to cause any damage. -
Magnetized tips are fine. Just don't go leaving them on any chips.
-
You can use magnetised screwdrivers, never had any problems with them and i cant imagine using non-magnetised ones doing something like this.
-
I simply avoid them since magnets can damage some electronic components. The magnets have to be strong, it's just that i'm a bit paranoid when it comes to computers. I got friends using magnetic tips and they didn't encounter any problems, i just tend to be extra careful when dealing with computer parts.
Like chastity said, just don't leave them on components. @Hellcry, usually it's not a problem, it gets tricky sometimes using non-magnetic screwdrivers though.
