Sorry to derail, but I hope this thread is the appropriate place to ask this question:

Under furmark with an overclock of 800 on the core and 1400 on the memory it gets up to about 89 degrees for me. Is that running too hot or would it be ok?

1400 on the memory? LOL please show screenshots of this I would be very interested to see Furmark running at 1400 mhz! :D What drivers are you using?

If so then yes those temps are mighty low for those settings. Have you checked the temps on HWINFO? Im pretty sure your MEM(IO) will be running (Very) hot.

dang! that's some risky OCing :p Very good temps but my faield out and it only displayed 80.

On another note I'll be messing around with the notebook all day today and document what I find. This really hasn't deterred me from Asus at all. I like their business model, pricing, and design. I'll probably buy a G74 when the time comes! Just jakes on me for buying refurbished.

Im pretty sure you are referring to the 460m GTX if im not mistaken :) the 5870m couldn't handle this overclock in the G73 at least.

Well i'm sure it could with the help of some liquid nitrogen in regards to cooling :p. And before you ask, even though i have access to some liquid N, i'm not crazy enough to try it. Anyways screenshot or it didn't happen. To the OP, if you need to replace the screen you can take the opportunity to get a nice matte one.

Yes I was referring to the model with the gtx 460m in it. 1400 isn't too high of an OC over the base 1250 on it.
