Hi All, does anyone have experience running an external monitor from the G73's HDMI out to a DVI monitor with an adapter? I have a 24" Samsung 245BW (1920x1200) that I would like to run as a second monitor and wanted to hear from anyone who has had experience running dual monitors via the HDMI out to DVI in.

    Thanks!

I run a 22" lcd as my main display with the laptop as my secondary display using a hdmi to dvi cable. I would recommend it. I don't think you can run dual external monitors through hdmi though so if you want to go down that road you will need something like the matrox dualhead2go or triplehead2go using the vga port instead.

I use HDMI all the time on my g73 to my ASUS 24" monitor. The quality is excellent, as expected. I run it as split screen and have my 24" monitor actually set up as my primary monitor when I have it connected. Usually I do this to play games and on my laptop screen I can use it to monitor temps and clocks and stuff. Though the only difference I do is from HDMI-HDMI, I do not go HDMI-DVI as your suggesting, but shouldnt see any kind of quality difference at all.

I am using a HDMI to DVI cable to connect my N71JQ to an Eizo 24" 1920x1200 monitor.
    It works very nicely.
I would though suggest that you buy a HDMI cable with 1080P support; with golden contact is better.
The first one I got was not very good. It produced some flickering on the screen.

Thanks for the replies... For the people running their external monitor as the primary, do you position your G73 off to the side and use an external keyboard/mouse?

I do exactly that on my G72. 24" in front with external mouse and keyboard.

    Cheers,

I use external wireless keyboard and mouse when connected to external monitor. I am using Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave Pro.
