I was just doing some CPU stress tests (x264 encoding and prime95) on my G73, and my CPU temps seem to be a bit high. They hover around low-mid 70's, which is a pretty high temp for CPUs. Is this normal?

Also, is there a way to turn fan noise down? My G73 is pretty loud even when the CPU is idle and underclocked to 931mhz. Well it's not so much the fan noise as much as the vibration that I feel through the keyboard and the palm rest.

Part of the noise you hear is from the 2 harddisks in the front. 2 7200 RPM behind a small thin layer of plastic does make you hear it.

The other noise is the GPU fan on the right side which is always running a few steps faster than the CPU fan. This is because the current video BIOS for the 5870m doesn't really have any power saving enabled when you are idle or doing simple desktop/office work.

Let's hope the new video BIOS does this.

Well actually I only have one harddrive (Best Buy model) lol

I dunno, I think the fan was better before. I sent the model in to Best Buy service center a few weeks ago and they replaced the motherboard and harddrive. Now after I got it back I noticed the fan was louder than before. I also noticed a new BIOS 206 was installed (I previously had BIOS 203). Should I update to BIOS 209 or 211?

Speedfan can't do anything to control my fans lol...

Bios 211 will actually make the fans kick into high gear sooner (making them more loud), without actually lowering your temps too much (maybe 1 to 2 C reduction).

Bios 209 so far has been the best, in my experience.

Mid 70s with Prime 95 is about on par with the temps of other users. What temp does your processor idle at? Mine idles at around 52C and reaches up to 69C when playing GTA or Starcraft 2.
