Im having issues.I clean instaled Windows 7 Pro x64. I followed this guide. Anyways the Wireless driver won't install, The Camera Driver wont install and Turbo Boost won't install. I get errors that say "This version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows your running...". The camera just gives me an error when installing as well.......
So I installed a driver for the G73 from the Notebook Drivers for the camera and the webcam view is upside down now!

There is a specific order to installing, which the guide explains. Also, I didn't include the drivers for the hardware you're having difficulty with because ASUS doesn't offer exact matches to the ones supplied on the Driver and Utility disc. So, unless you have the disc, I have no idea what drivers you are trying to install.
To use Turbo Boost and the Turbo Boost gadget, you need to install both the driver and the monitor.
The Camera is a specific to the G73JH. ASUS offers several drivers for different cameras, so you can't install just any old driver. The model has to be a 2Mb Chicony. You can check to make sure by checking the Hardware ID in device properties and matching the code with the information provided by ASUS.
As to the Wireless LAN Driver, again, without knowing which package you are attempting to install it makes it difficult to know why it failed.
Drivers for all three devices are available in the ASUS G73JH download area on their website. -
What wireless Driver do I use? Or is the default Windows 7 driver okay?
Intel 1000 Wifi Wireless Lan Driver or Intel 6200 Wifi Wireless Lan Driver? Windows 7 Pro x64 G73JH-RBBX05 -
I used the Windows 7 driver and didn't have any problems. I just left it.

You listed Power4Gear as the proper working link for the Intel i7 turbo boost driver. Is that the actual driver to get this built-in function running properly?
-
Correct. P4G Hybrid controls it.
-
That's one way.

My son had this issue on his G50VT and he found this on the web.
I have the same problem with an N50v.
I resolved it by editing the snp2uvc.inf file.
Open it with notepad and search for the word "flip".
You'll see entries like this...
"HKR,DefaultSettings,Flip,0x00010001,0 - and - HKR,Settings,Flip,0x00010001,0".
Change the last digit (zero) to a "1" to all instances.
Save the file and re-install your drivers manually from Device Manager.
Choose the driver to install, do not let Windows search for you.
Reboot and your video will be in the correct orientation.
This file (or a similar one) was part of the driver he downloaded from ASUS. Said it fixed the issue for him.

Or, you can install the correct driver.

My G73's device manager is showing a missing driver for "PCI Simple Communications" Does anyone know which driver this is corresponding too?
Edit:
Nevermind!
I needed the
Intel® Management Engine Interface Driver -
disable it.
-
As betaflame said, just disable it in Device Manager. Unless you're a corporate system administrator, AMT has little or no value for personal use, other than wasting cycles.

So I have a question. A clean install of Windows will get me what? Better performance? Less hardware issues??? I have a G73 sitting in the box which I haven't opened yet because I want to find out all the facts before I pull the trigger. Oh, maybe a link for these installs? Thanks.
-
A clean install really helped me. So I would recommend it, gave me close to 250pts better in 3dmark06 just from the new install. As well as the overall OS felt much snappier + games ran better too.
-
Well that's helpful. I am still on the fence if I want to keep mine which is on of the reasons I joined this forum. I just noticed you can't PM anyone either, that's a bummer. Well, I hope this thread doesn't all off before you read it but is there a link I can read for a clean install without you having to type 1 million words? Thanks.
-
Hi! I am getting my G73 soon. I've done some research and opened this thread recently asking for some advice which might be helpful for you (after you have done a clean install) - Have a look here
-
Yeah, I was reading your thread and now I cant find it
-
I think you have to have 15 posts first.
See my sig. -
thanks Kalim. I'll get on that baby when I crack the box. I think I am going to sleep on it.

Hi, if you want to do a clean install, restart your computer, then press F9. Press Enter on the selected option. Take it from there. I just got my G73 and currently doing that. Ive been told that Asus do not ship "Recovery Disks" anymore, apparently they are trying to save money and cut on everything they can. So instead you can press F9, OR just do the DVD recovery disks yourself (AI Recovery Asus Tool) in Windows - there will be a shortcut icon for it on your desktop
-
Neither the F9 key or the AI Recovery method is a clean install.
-
To me it is
it formats and reinstalls Win7 including the drivers. Thats enough for me, and all that needs to be done. What do you see as a "clean install" then?
-
Starting fresh (thus clean). Either a new drive or a re-formatted one. You can potentially end up keeping problem areas with you otherwise.
-
Please help, I am new to laptops.
Is it safe to format c: drive on the best buy G73JH? Won't I lose the hidden recovery partition if I format ie. do a "clean" install (not via F9 nor AI recovery method).
I want to upgrade my laptop to Win7 Ultimate so need to do a fresh install, but don't want to lose the hidden partition.
If I make recovery discs with AI recovery method first, then I don't have to worry about losing the hidden recovery partition?
ie. After formatting my drive "clean", and installing Win7 Ultimate, will the F9 recovery function still work?
