Welcome to the forum, HAve you made any changes to your machine? (SSD, RAM upgrade). Does the problem occur on AC as well as battery?
First press F2 to enter setup and reset to BIOS defaults. If the problem persists, press ESC key after power on, you should see a list of bootable devices, select your hard drive.
Also try removing all power sources and press and hold the power on button for 10 seconds. Then try cold boot.

Hi thanks for responding, I have done all the remove power stuff however it will not boot into bios, safe mode, recovery. Just stays on the ASUS splash screen with intel down the bottom corner whatever function key I press. What is a cold boot
    Have made no hardware changes

Glad to help, Cold boot is another way of saying turn it on with power switch.
Try removing the bottom cover and swapping the 2 hard drives. (I assume your machine came with 2), then boot.

    1) If you can get into the BIOS, try resetting the BIOS to Optimal Settings. (Last Tab)

    2) Try removing the 100GB hdd and boot

Thanks for replying machine is with ASUS for fixing. I must say this is the third time know in 18 mths plus i had a g1s with all the 8600m gt issues previous am i a sucker for punishment ad im starting to feel somewhat annoyed and dissappointed with Asus notebooks. I mean approx every 6 mths for the last 5 years i have had to pack up a computer and lose it for a few weeks for warranty repair.
